Driver's Ed, March 24th, Periods 1-2

Today, the Shop is set up to look like a busy city street.

"Today, guys, you're going to practice driving in an environment that has a little more in the way of distractions. Also, now that you have a little bit of driving experience, we're going to start learning to park properly.

I want you to attempt parallel parking, parking on a hill, and backing in to a parking space."

Barbossa signed in. Carrying an anchor.

That can't be good.

Everyone else? Might've gotten some driving experience.

Not so much for Barbossa.

He was still trying to get a handle on braking.

Creeping along beside the parking space he was supposed to back into, he yelled out the window, "Be lookin' out!" and tossed the anchor.

Without stepping on the brakes.

Yeah.

That doesn't work so well.

One car being "steered" by a crazy pirate heading in a random direction, possibly near you.

Best be takin' cover.

Zero attempted parallel parking. There was a crunch.

"Um, you're supposed to leave a note when that happens, right?"

In her attempts, Cally utterly fails at parallel parking.

The hill and the backing, not so hard. But dear gods, parallel parking is EVIL.

Cally signed in!

Rose signs in.

As Rose is parallel parking, she hears a scraping and quickly hits the break. She cringes.

Anders signs in! Woo!

Okay, so Anders resets the shop a couple of times at first while parallel parking, because he backs in too fast.

But once he figures out that he should probably be going a lot slower, he's actually pretty good at it. Which makes no sense unless you want to formulate some bizarre theory about Pyramid players being able to calculate angles pretty well in their heads, however unconsciously.

The rest? A breeze.

Anders is, of course, there to give Cally a huge hug when she gets out of the car, 'cause he's a morale booster like that.

Anders just stares at Tommy.

"My name's not Conner."

"What? I can pay for that! Or...I could if that was a real car."

Parking on a hill and backing into a space go more smoothly.

Anders keeps staring. "Then how come you keep calling me that?"

"You've been calling me Conner for weeks now," says Anders, who's starting to wonder if maybe the smart doctor glasses aren't all they're cracked up to be.

Privately, Zero wonders whatever happened to circling until you found a better parking place. Out loud, she says, "Sorry?"

"Um, Thanks sir." Cally boggles a little but doesn't bring up the whole wrong name thing.

"Okaaaaaaaaaaay," says Anders. "Why?"

Re: Drive/Park

[identity profile] cantgetnorelief.livejournal.com 2006-03-25 02:18 am (UTC)(link)
Anders is seriously starting to wonder about Doctor Oliver, man. Because if he gets called Conner again today . . .

[identity profile] cantgetnorelief.livejournal.com 2006-03-25 02:23 am (UTC)(link)
"Oh, frak," says Anders. "This isn't one of those weird lookalike things like Crichton and Mitchell. Please tell me it isn't."

Re: Drive/Park

[identity profile] cantgetnorelief.livejournal.com 2006-03-25 02:33 am (UTC)(link)
Anders perks up a little. "Does he play Pyramid?"

"Oh! Soccer! I know what that is." Anders nods very, very seriously. "Cool. But see, Doctor O, I'm still not Conner."
