Summer Games [Wednesday, June 20, 2018]

"Hello, and welcome to our final summer game before we go on a break next week!" Anakin yelled through his megaphone in his usual spot in the park. Around him were tables covered in just about every color of embroidery floss you could think of--heavy on the rainbow colors for Pride--as well as beads and other accessories to make things pretty. "Today you will be working together to make as many friendship bracelets as you can in a timed period. The winner gets the fish."

He reached his hand out and the Frankenfish came flying in from...wherever it had been lurking this week. It was now neon bright, with teeth and a brand-new carving and could probably be seen from space. Don't launch it there to check. "The winner will keep this amazing prize for two weeks. Please do not launch it into the sun."

He pulled out a sheet of paper. "Now listen for your group:

Teachers: Kitty, Jenkins, Kanan, Amaya
Townies: Brooke, Peter, Jono, Hera
Townies: Hannibal, Miguel, Eliot, Mitsutada
Students 1: Rey, Tip, Astrid, Aloy
Students 2: Sabine, Norman, Sidon, Paris
Students 3: Summer, Breq, Dante, Beaker"

He gestured to the tables. "There are instructions on making friendship bracelets on your tables. You have a half hour. Ready...go!"

Did this seem too easy to anyone else?

You have a half hour to make as many as you can! Don't get fancy, but they do need to fit around a standard wrist!

Exactly 29 minutes into the proceedings, everyone at the tables was hit by a telepathically controlled water balloon wielded by a smugly smirking Anakin Skywalker.

"Water balloon fight!" he called out, yanking huge kiddie pools full of water balloons out of hiding. "Use your friendship bracelets as slingshots! Every table for themselves!"

And then he tried to get the hell out of the way, which was going to be futile--he'd started the fight, after all.

"Rey, Tip, Astrid, and Aloy!" Anakin called. "Come take this terrifying fish from me."

He grinned at Astrid. "Two times, huh? You must really like this thing."

Thank you all for taking this ridiculous and running with it so far!

Summer had had...way too many drinks at her party last night, and half of her wondered why she even bothered still coming to this thing, but her curiosity sometimes got the best of her. If it hadn't been for all those drinks, she'd have gotten here and been supremely disappointed that it was just friendship bracelets with a side of nothing crazy going on at all, but right now? Right now, just sitting there making friendship bracelets sounded awesome. She could do friendship bracelets in her sleep.

...which she might have drifted off into a few times.

And, yes, that was a withering little look sent Anakin's way (made even more pitiful from being drenched from water balloons) before Astrid turned to her teammates and lifted her hands in surrender.

"I had it all last week. I've done my time."

She'd never won anything in her whole life, and now this, and could people really question why she didn't like this place?

"Oh... okay... this isn't so bad," Norman said, looking at all the string and stuff. "It's kind of like macramé all over again, right?"

Which had him squinting and looking around, just in case there were secret gremlins.

"More knots," Kanan sighed, reaching for the green embroidery floss. "Alright, let's see if I manage to tie myself to anybody else this time around."

Probably not. Hera wasn't in his group this week.

Jono shrugged, sat down, and started to tie knots. Why the hell not? He didn't need to supervise anybody this time around, there weren't popsicle sticks involved, and his teammates were all grown adults? He'd consider that a win.

//I've got a friend in New York who would've loved this,// he mused. //She needs to never find out about summer camp.//

Jubilee would have had all the students making bracelets within the hour.

So, Rosa was there at the park, with Arlo 2 prancing proudly in front of her on their walk, until she settled somewhere to sort of observe the goings-on...with a faint but distinctly there grin on her face, the kind that should definitely make anyone who knew her feel worried.

Granted, you probably didn't even need to know her at all to get the feeling that a smile on that face was just...unsettling.

"Why do we need teams to make bracelets?" Kitty said, because she didn't trust this.

Jono sat there for a moment, dripping wet. And then he squinted. And then he shrugged out of his jacket, because that was leather, dammit, pulled himself to his feet, grabbed his bracelet, and immediately made a break for the ammunition.

Look, give Jonothon an in for a war in which the only casualties would be some balloons and he was going to leap on it.

And people were welcome to try to get him with those balloons, because with his flames sparking up and twisting around him the way they were, his center mass was going to be a tricky target.

Kanan sighed, buried his face in his hand, and ducked behind the table for cover from further incoming balloons.

"Somehow I didn't see this coming," he muttered, reaching out a hand to pull one of those kiddie pools of balloons closer in so they wouldn't have to break cover to get them.

"Because Skywalker has something up his sleeve," Kanan decided. "I have no idea what, but if it invovles gremlins again, I'm leaving."

Amaya didn't quite care for all this dainty-work; she had to take off her gloves to do it, but it was easy enough, and she was a bit of a workhorse, so she shrugged.

"Maybe not," she suggested, clearly the newest in this group, and therefor delightfully naive and oblivious. "I mean, it could all just be more of that summer camp friendship and teamwork rigmarole..."

She wasn't that naive, though, which explained the lifted brows and the slight upturn in her voice as she asked, "Right?"

"Not so bad at all!" Sidon chimed in brightly, of course, as he himself picked up a few strings and considered how they'd be woven together. "And I must say, I rather do like the name. Friendship bracelets! How wonderful! What in particular about them gives them such a marvelous name?"

...they were being given small round missiles which, when launched and made contact with enough force, burst open in a spray of wonderful and magnificent water.

It did not take Sidon very long at all to conclude that water balloons were one of the best things he'd yet to encounter on this strange island.

So while he played up his ability to hide and deflect and dodge things during the paintball fight, he miiiiight have been doing everything he could to taunt people and make himself a target for this one, because every time a balloon burst on him, it was such an incredible feeling that he almost want to ask people to directly just pelt him, but that wouldn't be as much fun.

He also tried to lob as many as he could to entice people to strike back, but found he had some difficulty with handling the balloons himself. It took him a few tries to get used to holding them in a way that his sharp claws didn't immediately pierce into the balloon and pop it while still in his clutch.

"People trade them with their friends," Norman explained, smiling faintly. "So their friends can wear them around and think of them, I guess. I don't know, I've never really done this before."

That was actually kind of sad if you took a moment to think about it, so he hastily added, "I like the beads this time. This whole setup seems a little less ominous than the gremlin macramé, at least."

Would Sidon mind terribly if Norman decided that he was going to hide behind him?

"Do you want to draw their attention and I'll throw balloons back?"

It seemed like an offer that would work out for them both, since Sidon seemed to like being pelted with the things and Norman had at least handled a water balloon before.

"....nooooooooooooo.....," said Summer.

Because, of everything on the list of things you'd want to see when you were hungover in a park, kiddie pools of water balloons didn't even begin to make even the bottom of the list.

Astrid didn't have friends, so she certainly hadn't ever made friendship bracelets. She had learned how to weave bracelets from women who sold them on roadside stands and to tourists on the beach when she lived in Mexico, though, and the beads were a great touch, so that was her inspiration as she gathered a few materials, drifted toward her teammates, and set to work.

Dante had shown up to the park... mostly 'cause he'd heard about fun shit going down here and he was curious.

His brow was getting progressively more furrowed the longer Anakin talked.

"You're kidding me," Dante said, staring at the string. "How does this even work?"

Okay, so Dante had no idea how to make a friendship bracelet, which was why he had all of two laying around.

But he did know how to shoot things.

Fuck yeah, he was aiming his first water balloon at Anakin's retreating back and let it fly with impeccable accuracy.
