Kanan, who was back to normal with the minor exception of a streak of blue and a streak of pink left in his hair from the week before, had asked his students to gather in the danger shop today, where the place was set up to resemble the inside of a small cabin, with mostly trees visible through the window.

"Since class took a bit of an unexpected detour last week, I'm going to take two of the topics on my lesson plan and cover them here. They both fit neatly under 'running away,' anyway," he began. The less said about Caleb the better, apparently. "Sometimes, even if you've been careful to keep your head down and avoid notice, it might become necessary to bid a hasty retreat. Which, if you've played your cards right in the lead-up to that retreat, hopefully isn't a mad scramble. If it is... let's try to mitigate that for you some, today."

He leaned back against the cabin's only door, arms crossed over his chest, and nodded around the room.

"When you end up somewhere new, work out a game plan. Understand your surroundings. Caleb wasn't wrong entirely when he," still embracing that third person, thank you, "told you to ask questions. In this case, you're going to have to answer those questions for yourselves. Nobody is going to just hand you the answers. How long can you survive out there if you were to set out on foot? What supplies will you need? Are there predators out there? Enemies? Have you got a means of keeping contact with others in case something goes wrong? Is there anything, especially personal items, that you refuse to leave behind, no matter how impractical it might seem to take with you?"

He waved his hand around the cabin.

"Ask those questions among yourselves, and work out some answers. Figure out a game plan for escape, and then for continued survival, if you have to spend any amount of time in the woods. Plan for the possibility of communications blackouts. Plan for the impossibility of vehicles or mounts, leaving you navigating those woods on foot. Is there weather you'll have to survive? What will you do if you're being pursued. What do you refuse to leave behind? And then pull together the supplies you'll need. Band together if you believe in strength in numbers. Give the woods a try."

Yeah, there was no way he was getting out of a hard time from the girl who originated the pink and blue hair thing, thank you very much.

"While I appreciate the homage to my look, I have some notes on the application."

Kanan shook his head a little, giving a wry laugh.

"I'm not the one who applied it," he noted, "but far be it from me to turn down critique from a pro."

He was probably going to try to be rid of it before too long. He kept waffling on that one, stubbornness versus practicality.

"What were you going for with the placement of the pink?"

She dug the blue, no critique there.

"At the moment, 'hiding in the rest of my hair, hopefully it isn't too obvious back there,' is a big one," Kanan ventured. And then made a face. And then sighed. And then added, "It was the braid."

So help him.

"Oh, Kanan."

The braid. The braid.

Kanan buried his face in his hand.

"It was symbolic."

It had been awful.

"What... What was a pink braid symbolic of?" Sabine asked.

"That Caleb was a stupid kid with a lot to learn," Kanan muttered. Still into his hand.

Sabine shrugged. "We all make mistakes when we're tiny."

He had still barely been younger than you, Sabine.

"I'm surprised you kept it."

"Not half as surprised as I was when I woke up and it was still there," Kanan admitted. "I'll probably get it covered over with something more neutral the next time I head back home."

"They do sell dye here," she pointed out. "Even boring normal colors."

"Well, good," Kanan replied. "Then it's just a matter of me doing... something with this. And hopefully not voiding my damage deposit in the process."

Rosa's sink had barely survived the pink and she knew what she was doing.

"...Do you want help?"

Or: did he want her to just do it?

"I have no idea what I'm doing, and Hera's a Twi'lek," Kanan replied, looking sheepish. "It's completely possible that I need help."

So, yes.

"I have classes Tuesdays and Thursdays and apparently I go to the scrapyard on Fridays now," she said. "Otherwise I'm free."

Kanan ticked through his own schedule. Thursdays he was.... right here. Friday he was in the park...

"How are Saturdays?"

"Wide open ~~with minor SP~~," she answered.

"Perfect ~~and ditto~~," Kanan replied, nodding. And then pausing and adding, "So, where would you like to do that?"

Because he'd invite her over to be an accessory to trashing his bathroom sink, but he'd been on the island long enough to understand that it wasn't exactly a done thing, on Earth.

"Uhh, I don't know," she admitted. "The girls' bathroom in the dorms is probably not an option. There's a bathroom in my warehouse but it might not be the most comfortable washing it out."

Kanan scratched his chin as he mulled those over.

"There's the scrapyard, too," he offered. "If 'hairdressing with a garden hose' isn't completely unheard of, anyway."

Improvisation!

"... Chop would get a kick out of it, I'm sure."

"It'd take a while, but it's manageable," she said. "And forget Chopper, Hera would get a kick out of it."

"That's true, too," Kanan chuckled, shaking his head a little. "Humans and our hair."

He shrugged.

"Wouldn't want to deny her the show."

And it was way less awkward on this island than a broadcast that went, 'Kanan walked into a warehouse alone with his TA...'

See, that was why Sabine had started early with the rum bribes! Though they also didn't know each other that well.

"Okay, then Saturday. Your head and a garden hose."

"Sounds like as good a use for a Saturday as any," Kanan replied, nodding. "Thanks for this, Sabine."

"Anyti- actually, no, you're probably not going to want to do this again," she said.

"I will be genuinely surprised if this ever happens again," Kanan agreed. "But I'll remember who to tap in for a rescue if it does."
