Anakin stood on the edge of the docks, a dozen rowboats bobbing the water around him. The clouds above were looking threatening (and kind of...not gray, which was odd), but so far the day had been dry. There was a set of bleachers (with canopies above them) set up for any spectators to cheer from, and the ambitious vendors from Mooby's were selling burgers and fries.

"Welcome to our first day of summer camp activities," Anakin yelled through the megaphone he'd acquired from...somewhere. "Our first community building activity will be a teachers versus students rowing race from here to the Isle of Ikea. The winning team receives a Big Mouth Billy Bass because I don't want it in my house any more, and all the Swedish meatballs they can eat. The losers get sore arms and the pleasure of not owning a singing fish award. In the event of a rowboat flipping, our PE instructor Steve Rogers will be out on a jet ski for rescue missions."

He looked at all the contestants. "I'll know if you're capsizing on purpose. Also, he's not that good looking. Contestants, please put on your life preservers while I call out the teams. For the students: Sabine and Beaker, Astrid and Jason, Rufus and Aloy, Theron and Tip, Norman and Khadgar, Peebee and Bobby, and Jaylah and Peridot. For the teachers: Amaya and Tony, Kanan and Magnus, Reno and Jenkins, Cara and Deadpool, and Liam and Zoe. Racers, man--or woman, or other--your ships."

Once everyone was in place, Anakin raised his hand. "On your marks, get set...go!"

...And that was when it started pouring rainbow colored-rain.

"I'm sure it'll be fine," Sabine said. Sure, she was partnered with someone with those arms, and she'd never done this before, but she was capable and could get them through this. "You're not going to explode again or anything, are you?"

"Why can we not just take the singing animal?" Competition seemed stupid if you asked her.

Beaker waggled his hand and explained via meeps that he never really planned to explode, but sometimes things happened.

Was the girl from the desert going to willingly participate in this? Absolutely not! But she would watch, with a pair of binoculars she'd gotten before the squirrels.

These were things you learned to do as a scavenger.

Oh. That's what could go wrong!

"I appreciate that," Kanan replied, squinting one eye and looking at Magnus thoughtfully. "Is that something you usually do in boat races?"

It was important to know these things.

"Okay, well, try your best not to," Sabine said. "We'll be fine."

She'd be fine. She'd also be coming up with potential rescue plans in a boat for this kid.

That... that was a very good question. Peridot turned to look at the singing fish thoughtfully.

"... I bet we could."

This would go well.

"Meep," Beaker agreed, struggling into his safety vest.

"No."

Cara would stab you to keep that from happening, Wade.

Theron had had absolutely no intention of deliberately capsizing to be rescued by Steve and his safe, muscular arms.

Well, he hadn't before Anakin had put that idea in his head at least.

Also, ping me here if in the course of your slowplay, you need Baywatch!Steve to rescue you :)

Strategy? Pfft. Peebee was a big fan of winging it, which was part of the reason she wasn't worrying too much about not even knowing her rowing partner yet.

What a solid strategy, really.

Jaylah narrowed her eyes at Anakin in the distance, already trying to decide their best course of action in this. "You can distract."

"It has happened, but I felt super bad about it after the fact." Because he ruined Griffin's mini-game.

Also, both Justin and Reddit felt it was OOC to do.

"Counterpoint: yes."

They would have the best debate class.

"I... I think I can do that," Peridot said, looking around, trying to find something-- Aha! A garbage can!

"HEY LOOK. A FLYING REFUSE RECEPTACLE COVERING DISC."

There was a metal garbage can lid just, you know, flying around the bass now. As they are prone to do. Ignore the way Peridot was waving her arms around. That was clearly to get someone's attention.

Poor Magnus. How could you rush into bad decisions like throwing a man overboard or eating a magical artifact with an enchanted fork with critics like that?

"Okay, so we'll not let that happen again, and we'll just focus on rowing the boat," Kanan decided.

He was still going to be keeping an eye on you, Magnus.

The kind that ended in a fist fight.

Or started, given how Cara was eyeing off Deadpool. "I will stab you."

Let no one say she didn't warn him.

"Ugh, right, those." Sabine didn't feel the need for a safety vest, but at least it went with her color scheme?

Was it weird that she could put the life vest on over her armor?

After a pretty unfortunate first day of workshops yesterday, Astrid was actually kind of looking forward to this. It might be...relatively normal? Normal in the sense that summer camp activities were a thing, though they were a thing she had personally never experienced before. But at least then, if things weren't quite right, maybe she wouldn't then notice?

And so she was there, helping herself to a little food before everything started, nibbling a bit due to nerves. And even if the sky was pretty overcast, she was still wearing her sunglasses. She was exhausted from trying to not react to things, and she figured they might provide a little extra coverage for her today.

Jenkins was quite looking forward to a nice day watching a boat race. It'd been ages since he'd gone out to a rowing tournament. He had a pair of opera glasses of his own on hand, and a nice little box of popcorn, and was even wearing a nice, lightweight summer suit for the occasion!

The poor fool.

Jenkins had apparently been signed up. To row with someone by the name of "Reno".

He wondered if that name had anything to do with the Johnny Cash song.

"I'm afraid I haven't rowed myself since . . . well, I suppose that incident with the dog. Still, it should be quite an adventure."

Nah. Reno had killed plenty of people, but not necessarily just to watch them die.

"See, with your knowhow and my speed, I think we got this," Reno decided, grinning. "And if we don't... hey, at least it's a reason to get outta the house."

He offered Jenkins his hand.

"Reno."

Tip looked from the clouds to the water and wished she'd taken the time to do her braids. Or at least had brought a hair scarf.

"Right. Let's get this over with." She looked from Theron to Steve. "And no getting any ideas. I don't feel like swimming today."

[Unlike Tip, I am totally down with capsizing if you are!]

"Jenkins." He gave Reno's hand a single, firm shake. "I suppose I'd best finish my popcorn quickly, then."
