Music 201- March 24, 2006 - Period 7 - Class #20

John's at the front of the classroom today.

Junk food: Potato chips, cookies, Twinkies, Ho-Ho's, and other assorted goodies
Topic: Music in a Pinch
Professor: Bridge and John!

"Hey guys. Professor Ted's out today so me and Bridge are running the class."

On a large table near the junk food, there's a table full of kazoo's.

"Pick a kazoo up off the table. You can keep it. Today's topic is music in a pinch. This is your only instrument, these are your song sheets. Play as best as you can and let's see how well you guys do when creating music in a pinch!"

Pip signs in and plays air guitar for the missing Professor Ted.

Marty plays the theme from ~~The Godfather~~ a mob movie featuring Marlon Brando.

Angela attempted to make it a duet.

Unfortunately, it keps turning into half mob movie theme, half "Mary Had a Little Lamb."

Marty chuckles. "I think your kazoo needs tuning."

Angela gave him a confused look. "How do you tune a kazoo?"

"Well it's a very technical process," Marty said seriously. "It's better if I just show you instead of trying to describe it."

Angela raised an eyebrow and giggled a little as she handed her kazoo over. "It's probably better the kazoo is in skilled hands," she said.

Marty looked at the kazoo in Angela's hand briefly before leaning in and giving her a quick kiss.

"Truthfully it's all about lip alignment. I think you are good to go now."

"Ah. Much better," Angela said solemnly. She tootled away at the mob movie theme for a bit. "Way less nursery rhymey, now."

"So um... any plans for tonight?" Marty asked with a slight catch in his voice. "I was thinking about that discussion we were having last night."

"What is with your sudden fascination with scrapbooking?" Angela asked, sounding puzzled. "I mean, I thought it was mostly a girl thing."

Marty blinks at the "It was mostly a girl thing" statement for a couple of seconds.

"Um. Well... I know for a fact most guys enjoy it as well."

Angela gave Marty an odd look. If she had some idea they were no longer talking about gluing photographs and memorabilia into a notebook, her face gave no indication.

"Really? So, what, you've scrapbooked with other guys before?"

"Uh. No. But guys talk about it all the time."

Angela sighed. "I am completely never going to understand boys," she said.

"Tell you what. Come by my room tonight, and I'll have some scrapbooking supplies. It'll be fun."

Supplies?

"Sure," Marty tooted through his kazoo. "Nothing like a fun scrapbooking session with your girlfriend."

Angela grinned. "I'll see you then."

Cameron starts playing from the song sheet. After a while he gets distracted and starts playing the tight pants song instead.

Callisto plays the music earnestly. Earnestly, I say!

John tries to play his own kazoo. He ends up breaking it. Yes, he broke the kazoo. Oops.

After a little practice, Pip finally manages to get "La Marseillaise" down on the Kazoo.

"You know, this is how they should play all national anthems. On a kazoo. It would make the olympics fifty times cooler."

Zero took a few minutes to get acquainted with the kazoo, then proceeded to play "Ever the Same" almost pitch-perfect, if somewhat more angrily than it was probably intended. All that musical training helped. "This is a stupid song."

Watching her classmates ~~goof off~~ create ~~noise~~ music before trying out the strange, plastic wonder for herself was, well, educational. She gave her kazoo a few blows, and each sounded just as horrible as the preceding one. D'anna fiddled with the kazoo for a bit after that. Unfortunately, the sound was ever the same.

Bridge plays the song as it was meant to be played- earnestly.

He also occasionally pauses to read the lyrics in the fashion of a dramatic monologue.

Lindsey rolled his eyes at the music. A lot. He attempted a few bars of the song and then switched to "Folsom Prison Blues" for no apparent reason.

Chloe has to snicker a bit at the lyrics of the song, but the kazoo doesn't sound so bad.

Bridge and/or John might be here to talk to you.

"You two are the biggest dorks ever," Pip said as he left the class. He might be palming his kazoo. He might not. It's probably just John's imagination. "Then again, who is the bigger dork, the dork or the dork who follows him?"

"Jeez. Rude much?"

"Why? I pretty much admitted that I was the bigger dork than they were. It's a quote from ~~Can'trememberthemetanameforStarWars~~. Ya know, the first one. First one that came out, I mean. Not the first first one."

This was all Bridge's idea!

John Broke His Kazoo would be an excellent name for a band.
