Creative Weaponry; First Period, Tuesday [02/13].

Amaya had instructed the class to meet at a particular address in town this week, so some of the students who might be familiar might know what's coming, but she hoped those who didn't were a little bit surprised and confused to find themselves at Demon Marcus. But it was the right place and she gestured them all in to wait for everyone to arrive.

"You've probably guessed by now that today's a practical exercise day," she explained once everyone was accounted for, "and a big thanks to...Sparkle," and yes, that was a little bit of a wince as she said it because who was actually name that? But he was a fine guy so far, so what did it matter?, "for letting us invade his shop today. Mostly anything available is fair game, but let's not get too wild about it. I don't want to quell your creativity, but I also want you to be respectful.

"Now, there is a tailoring station over that-a-way," she hitched her thumb, "and that's off limits, but I do have small sewing kits for everyone to use if need be. You know the drill from here; take some time to walk around, pick out materials, and get inspired, and then get to work. I'm here if you have any questions, of course, and....Sparkle," really? That was a name? "here is going to stick around to make sure no one completely destroys his store, so you can consult with him as well."

Short, sweet, and to the point today, because Amaya figures if you need more explanation, have you even been to this class??

Uma hightailed it over to the shoes; snagging a heavy leather jacket on the way. The leather was good, durable, and made for a decent bit of armor and stilettos were spikes attached to shoes.

Without worrying if this counted as 'respecting' or not, Uma yanked the heels off of three different pairs of shoes, then punched holes in the right sleeve of the jack and worked the heels through them. More would be better, like a line, three or four deep, that stretched all the way up to her shoulder, but she figured this worked as proof of concept.

Mittens on strings? Awesome, those were instant bolos, at least once she shoved enough big, clunky necklaces into them and--hey, nice bra. It would make a semi-decent sling, at least once she found an acceptable cache of ammo.

Demon Marcus is a catch-all clothing store for the fashion forward...the perfect place to try and make some sweet weapons, right? At the moment, with it being the day before Valentine's Day, there is heavy leaning toward the theme with the selections in the store at the moment, but the selection is vast and moddable. The same goes for accessories, which are also available and moddable. Mannequins dressed to the nines to put a genderbend spin on the holiday are silently judging you and hoping you don't rip off their arms (but you definitely could), and messing with the actual fixtures might not go hand-in-hand with the respect part of Amaya's lecture, but it would give her something to fix later and that, in her book, was never a bad thing.

Tip went straight for the accessories. Particularly the belts. She was going to have to spend some time fiddling with them and a wide selection of scarves before she formed a full idea, but she'd read enough books to know that belt buckles could be vicious. . . .

Ringo was thinking along at least somewhat similar lines as she was pursing her lips over a selection of scarves herself. She was picking them up one at a time and carefully running her fingers over them, tugging lightly to feel how they stretched and how durable they might be.

Tip looked over thoughtfully. "What do you think, want to team up on this one, or split the scarf haul?"

That prompted a giggle. "There's plenty to go around," Ringo grinned. "But teaming up sounds fun!"

She glanced over at Tip. "You got a plan yet?"

"Depends. Does the phrase 'belt buckle whip' count as a plan?"

"Ooooh!" Ringo's eyes widened. "I was just trying to figure out what would make a good weight. One of those big belt buckles would be perfect!"

There's not a whole lot of room in the store for the usual army of dummies, but Amaya has brought in one with her and put a jaunty hat on it in the spirit of the exercise if anyone wanted to take a few minutes to see how their weapon stands up.

Who is equal parts fascinated and horrified by a good portion of the things being sold in this shop.

It was possible that Sparkle was sitting back with a grin on his face at the counter, watching the goings-on with a keen interest.

Maybe he was taking notes.

You know. Just in case.

It beat rolling his eyes every time Amaya made a face at his name, anyway.

She'd get used to it eventually! And as it was, while the kids were getting to their business and it was pretty clear that none of them were going to cause any dire emergencies, Amaya gave Sparkle a little nod as she came up to him.

"Thanks for letting us do this," she said. "The Danger Shop's nice and all, but I think it all just sticks better when you're actually doing it with real things and not just some fancy illusion hocus-pocus, you know?"

"Oh, I know," Sparkle replied, offering her a little grin. "I've been around this island long enough to know that there isn't much that beats a bit of practical experience, anyway. And I'm sure the students here'll be a lot better at picking a practical weapon from my stock than the time sharks were falling in the street and I armed myself with a sticker gun."

It was about as effective as it sounded, really.

"... I didn't exactly think well under pressure, back then."

For such a small statement, there was a lot to unpack there, and Amaya, who'd only really known about the sharks in vague reference from Apu, needed a moment to put it together.

And then her eyebrows lifted in a sort of hey, at least it was something expression.

"Wonder how hard it would be to pack in and shoot something small, like razor blades, outta one of those things if you had to," she mused, mostly to herself, stroking her chin with the far distant look of someone who was going to try precisely that as soon as she was finished here.

"Oh," she said, more conversationally, "yeah, these kids are real great so far. Sometimes they tend to lean toward the obvious choices, or they go in for a solution not involving weapons at all to get the job done, but I'm pretty impressed so far. They're natural problem solvers, most of 'em. That'll get 'em far in most places."

And if she sounded a little proud about it as she said it, well...that's because she was, even if she tried not to let on too much.

Sparkle nodded as he looked over the group. He knew a few of them from his own classes and whatnot. Some faces were new. Either way, this was definitely a Fandom crew of students, wasn't it?

"It'll get 'em far off the island. It'll get 'em through life on the island," he agreed, now looking thoughtfully at his sticker gun before picking it up and holding it out to Amaya with a crooked little grin. "Unless it gets them into more trouble in both places. I've seen that happen, too."

So we had a "team building" drinking party last night that involved my department "sampling" a multitude of very rare releases of some premium local beers.

I regret...so much right now. I am...guaranteed to be slow today.
