Creative Weaponry; Tuesday, 1st Period. [01/30].

Class that morning would be held in the Danger Shop again, where the students would find themselves on white sandy beach. The sun overhead in the clear blue sky was big and bright and definitely way too hot. On one side, the vast and seemingly endless ocean stretched out to the horizon, the skeleton of a shipwreck just far enough to seem out of reach except for the very best swimmers. On the other side, the thick jungle sprouted up, most of the paths seeming blocked off and impenetrable a few feet in.

"Welcome," Amaya greeted them brightly, "to OhCrap Island!"

Hey, she was never that great at names. "There," she said, hitching a thumb over her shoulder at the wreckage poking out of the water, "is our ship. Luckily, there were a few rowboats on board to get us to shore," and she gestured toward the six small wooden boats with oars bobbing along on the edge of the water, "but we're S.O.L. on getting back home the way we came. Which shouldn't be a problem, they'll be sending help soon, but we've got to survive the night first. Maybe not so hard if this were a survival class; we'd make a fire, find some food, sing Kumbaya. But this is a weapons class, so guess what? This jungle here is chock full of big scary animals that are going to want to eat us in about half the class's time, so we're going to need to defend ourselves.

"Now I know some of you," Yang, "can probably defend yourself without weapons, but that's not the point, and I'd hope I wouldn't need to tell any of you that, anyway, but it never hurts to remind ya. There might not seem like much to work with at first, but if you look closely, you might surprise yourself with what you find. Just a few notes: feel free to swim out and search for debris, but keep in mind that getting too close to the ship, you'll find a current that'll sweep you right back here on the island with lungs full of sea water and barnacles in your hair. Go too far into the forest and the animals are going to chase you right out. Everything else, though, is fair game.

"So, let's have at it! We've only got a little bit before dinner time."

Tip looked around a bit, hoping for a nice sharp rock or something, and ended up finding a message in a bottle. She spent a few moments trying to get the little scroll out, then gave up and busted the bottle against a rock. She glanced at the message (it just said "SOS"), then gently tested the points on the broken glass with her thumb.

Well alright then!

She tucked the neck end carefully in her back pocket and picked up a good sized bit of the base that had a nice edge on it. She wrapped part of it in one of her socks to make sure she didn't slice her hand open using it, then started cutting vines and palm fronds for rope. The coconuts could make for a decent bolo -- or just a bludgeon, since she didn't know how to use a bolo -- and once she got the neck end mounted on a stick, she'd have a basic spear.

And if she got enough rope together, she was thinking she might be able to make some of the smaller palm trees into giant slingshots. . . .

First, Yang was going to grab some of those vines and use them to tie her hair up in a ponytail, because it was probably best to make sure it was out of the way for this.

But she was going to kick off her boots, plop herself down in the sand, and use driftwood to make herself a slingshot. Look, if they were going to be on a nice island, she was going to enjoy it.
