As instructed last week, the class should be meeting Amaya in the danger shop that morning, where they'd find her waiting in a thick beautiful forest in autumn, the leaves turning russet and gold, birds in the trees singing along to the babbling of a nearby river, the occasional worrisome growl from deep within the shadows of the underbrush (that had been Amaya's favorite detail to work on). She grinned a little, nodding to each of them as they gathered, and when everyone seemed to be there for the most part, she started.
"Welcome to Daventry," she said, opening her arms to show it off a little, "or at least a pretty good approximation of it, if I do say so myself. Where I was born, where I lived before coming here, and a nice quiet hamlet not without its fair share of surprises. Come with me."
She gestured, leading them down the approximation of a path. "Now, if we're looking to nature for weapons," she spoke as they walked, 'you're getting some of the most basic, rudimentary stuff you can find. Long, long ago, many of us probably had ancestors that rooted around in the dirt for those exceptionally sharp bits of rock, for the strongest sticks, for a good piece of vine to tie it all together. Now some of you might be wondering, But Ms. Blackstone, if we were doing primitive tools from nature's own bounty today, why not just go to the Preserve?, and that'd be a fair question. And I've got a good answer..."
They'd reached a clearing, where she gestured for them to spread out a little, and, when satisfied with everyone's position, she smirked at that. "Because that's not what we're doing." And the smirk drew to a grin and she lifted her hand, where a small little device with a big red button rested in her palm. "This is."
And with the press of the button, the ground seemingly fell away from them and they seemed to have dropped down through some trap doors. They didn't really fall, she hadn't wanted anyone to get hurt, but she'd tried to make it feel like it was them rushing down into the pit, and not the pit rushing up around them. And each one of them 'fell' into a cage-like structure in a dank, smelly old cave, each door guarded by two little green dudes in strange armor. Except Amaya, who seemed way too pleased with her little flair for the dramatic.
"See, Daventry's got a real bad goblin problem," she explained, "and goblins have a real bad problem with kidnapping. And one day you might find yourself stuck behind some bars needing to get out in a hurry. Who wants to wait around for some hero or knight to bust you out? Not me. And not you guys either from what I can tell. So...how are you going to do it? Your resources are limited, but they should be workable if you get creative with it. Also, these bars," she reached over to tug on one of them, "are set to indestructible," Yang, "so that removes that element, as well.
"One more ground rule: in a situation like this in real life, sure, if you've got a knife on you or something else of that nature, which, really, you should have regardless, you could use it and it would be very helpful. However, it sort of defeats the purpose of the class, so, please, use only what's provided to you in the simulation or you will be docked points. Unless it's something really impressive and creative. Got it?
"You've got most of the class before these goblins unlock the gates to take you to your execution. Half the class to make a weapon to fend them off and bust out of here. And, yes, I know some of you could probably beat these little toadies to submissions without the help of a weapon, but for the sake of the class, play along. Bonus points if you manage to bust out early, too. I'll be here if you have any questions or need any help."

Listen to the Lecture - Weaponry - 01/16.
(The answer is chunder blossom. The answer is always chunder blossom.)

Yang, no.
(Yang, YES)

Hated to admit it, but she would have been taken by surprise in real life, too.
In a smelly, dank cave behind bars, though? That was familiar. And so were the goblins, though these didn't seem interested in making her coffee.

Work on your Weapons - Weaponry - 01/16.
Inside the cell, there is a bed with a wool blanket and a very flat pillow. There's a chamber pot, a wooden plate and cup from the last meal that was served (porridge and water, and there were no utensils), a small table, and a whole lot of cobwebs.
Not all the bars are indestructible, as Amaya said, just most of them, and each student will have something unqiue in their own cells:
Aloy: a mirror. It's kind of grimy and gross, but you can still see yourself in it pretty well
Maria DeLuca: there is a glass jar with a glowing blue newt inside underneath the bed
FN-2187: a pile of old, dusty rags that definitely could stand to be washed
Mara Jade: someone left a random book of potions on the bed
Yang Xiao Long: the last prisoner seemed to have kept a small little potted flowering bramble that somehow managed to survive without any sunlight
Kaylin Neya: yeah, that's definitely a shoe made out of glass under your bed.
Ringo Noyamano: your pillow is actually a bag of flour
Peebee: your bed contains five mattresses of varying size and thickness
Jason Lee Scott: there's a strange phonograph-like music box in one corner of your cell
Ahsoka Tano: yeah, that's definitely a big old lever sticking out of the floor in your cell, as well as a strange pipe sticking out of the wall
Gratuity Tucci: there is a bucket in the corner filled with what looks like dirty mop water
Uma: looks like someone's a goblin favorite! You've still got lunch left over on your plate, and it's not porridge, but a giant drumstick of unknown origin about as big as your head
"Goblins are...quirky," Amaya added with a little curl of her lip. "You've each got something different in your cell that speaks of this, just a little something to make it more interesting, but don't feel obligated to use what makes your cell unique. I just wanted to make sure we didn't wind up with just a dozen chamber pot boomerangs."
Sorry if you were planning on a chamber pot boomerang. (All extra items were randomly attributed from a collection of things featured in the puzzles in Rubble Without a Cause, from which this scenario is taken)
Re: Work on your Weapons - Weaponry - 01/16.
And that left her with a very large bone. Excellent.
The cup was knotted into the blanket as a quick makeshift weapon and then Uma set to work, her back to the guards so they couldn't see what she was doing. She dragged the end of the bone back and forth over the floor, trying to get all sides evenly. Bone was soft enough to take a point--that left her with a decent spear.
Honestly, this felt a lot like home. But with better food.
Re: Work on your Weapons - Weaponry - 01/16.
She did have water, though. . . .
With a bit of performative clumsiness, Tip managed to both spill the dirty mop water across the floor in front of her cell, slicking up the stone floor, and bust up the chamber pot into some decently sharp shards. The goblins in front of her cell got into an argument over who had to clean up the water, providing enough cover for Tip to pocket some of the larger shards and pull the handle off the bucket.
She cheerfully encouraged the goblins in their argument to keep them focussed on each other while she tried to use the pot handle to pick the lock on her cell.
Bill let out a series of skeptical bubbles. Tip ignored him and kept working. She'd only really ever read about lock-picking before, so this was going to require a lot of concentration. . . .
Re: Work on your Weapons - Weaponry - 01/16.
But hey, mattresses could make very effective bludgeoning instruments when mass effect fields were involved; she wrapped one around the thickest mattress now, spinning it around in the air like it weighed no more than a feather. Then -- wham, with a flick of her wrist the mattress slammed into the bars like several tons of bricks.
Not that the bars budged.
"Ugh, rude."
Re: Work on your Weapons - Weaponry - 01/16.
Look, she was too proud of it for surviving to use it to get out. Worse case scenario, she'd wait for one of them to open the door, and she'd get to punch.
But she grabbed her cup and considered it for a moment before banging it against her bars. "YO! Dudes! Can I get some water for this little thing?"
Spoiler: She was not going to use any liquids to water her new plant BFF. She was going to 'spill' it on whoever brought it to her and use the distraction to grab for the keys. Or punch their face until the other one unlocked the door. She'd be happy either way.
Re: Work on your Weapons - Weaponry - 01/16.
Ringo considered that for a few moments, then looked out at the hallway outside her cell.
Closed space, poor ventilation.
She tore open a corner of the sack and started swinging the sack up around near the bars, sending flour dust flying all over the place. She wasn't really sure this would work, but she really wanted to know if she could use it to cause a dust explosion.
Whether or not that would actually get her out of the cell was kind of a secondary concern because the idea seemed so neat.
Test your Weapons - Weaponry - 01/16.
Re: Test your Weapons - Weaponry - 01/16.
She lounged on the bare mattress, blanket knotted to form a sack with the cup in it as a weight, the bone spear hidden slightly to her side. She didn't bother to get up when the goblins opened her door, staying deceptively limp until they drew close enough to strike.
