"Hello to you all," Hannibal said when all the studensts were there. "This is Beginning Gourmet Cooking Techniques, and I am Doctor Hannibal Lecter. Welcome to a new semester. In class this term, we will be discussing a wide variety of things, from boiling water to managing a good sauce. For starters, however, today is for introductions. If each of you would, please, let us know your name, your prior experience with cooking, one thing you hope to learn from this class, and any allergies or sensitivities that you may have."

He gestured at the table next to him. "Also, I invite you all to eat." There were coffee, tea, and thick, homemade hot chocolate, along with hot sandwiches: spiced lamb patties with nutty garlic sauce, and cranberry grilled cheese.

"So." He nodded at the first student. "Begin."

Summer was just gonna go ahead and mix her coffee with the hot chocolate. It was gourmet cooking class, after all.

And she couldn't turn anything down with melted cheese, come on.

"Summer Smith," Summer offered with a smile and a small wave to the class. "No sensitivities or allergies. I've taken quite a few of Dr. Lecter's classes, so I think I've got some pretty good experience so far." Practically an expert! "My specialties are tacos, macaroni and cheese, and completely not disgusting and totally delicious jello molds." They were abominations. "I guess I'm just hoping to expand my repertoire and be a better chef. Also, it's my last semester and I'm really glad this is a cooking class instead of a first aid one again."

Because that shit was hard.

"My name is Ringo Noyamano," Ringo offered with a little half-bow. "I actually think I'm an okay cook? I've taken some classes before, and can still make some of the stuff I practiced, but they've all been pretty, um, practical? You know, making 'normal' food? So I'm kind of hoping to learn how to do some, um, fancy stuff?" She flushed a bit, wondering if that made her sound conceited.

Ooooh, the cranberry sandwich was delicious!

So was the hot chocolate, but Alluka made sure to finish her sandwich before she went for another cup of it.

Since Papa Hannibal was watching and all.

"I'm Alluka and Nanika Zoldyck," she said happily, since with Papa Hannibal she thought he'd be happier if Nanika was included too. "I'm really good at tea and anything that's needed for tea parties! Ummmm I'm not so good at anything else, though I try? Nanika's a terrible cook, but she loves marshmallows."

So that was okay?

Alluka leaned over and asked, curiously, "What's a jello mold?"

A mocha might not be precisely gourmet, but Hannibal could appreciate it, so long as both the coffee and the chocolate were good quality (which they naturally were).

"Welcome again, Summer," Hannibal said. "I'm pleased to have you, and I hope we can indeed expand your repertoire. If nothing else, to different sorts of gelatin."

There were gourmet abominations, too. He might just teach her kholodets.

"Welcome, Ringo." Hannibal bowed back. "I hope this class will help you learn the basics of that fancier cooking. There are a number of things to learn that will help with that."

Conceited? Hannibal didn't think so, but he might be the wrong one to ask.

Hannibal was watching, but he wasn't judging. He just smiled.

"Welcome to you both," Hannibal said, beaming. "We'll see if we can't teach you a few things. And perhaps we'll show you or Nanika how to make marshmallows."

"Oh, could we?!"

Alluka was all for that!

"Oh, oh but--would they count as gourmet? Or would we be breaking the rules of the class?"

Ringo giggled. "Everyone likes marshmallows," she pointed out.

Hannibal chuckled. "The class is only about teaching the techniques that you need to cook the best food. There's no reason marshmallows can't be a part of that."

"I mean, maybe," she said, "but what if someone was allergic to them?"

"Marshmallows can be part of that?" she asked, tilting her head. "They help learn how to make fancier foods?"
