Creative Weaponry; Tuesday, 1st Period.

As the students came into the classroom, they'd find their teacher behind the desk at the front, her boots up as she steadily sharpened a knife. She didn't do well with idleness and found she couldn't just sit there waiting, though she nodded to everyone as they came, occasionally stifling a yawn. It wasn't the early hour that did her in; she was fine with mornings, but she hadn't gotten a whole lot of sleep last night. Not that she was nervous about teaching or anything. Shut up!

Her desk itself was covered with a large, thick blanket, with odd shapes and lumps underneath it, and she kept sharpening until everyone looked like they were present and settled and she took a glance toward the clock on the wall.

"Welp," she said, setting aside her sharpening stone, slipping the knife under the blanket, "that's time. Anyone late'll just have to play catch up, but there won't be too much today."

She pushed back her chair, standing up, brushing her skirt flat as she did, then lifted a hand to the class. "You're all probably here for Creative Weaponry. I'm your teacher," and she had to snort a little at saying that, honestly, teacher!, "Amaya Blackstone. Don't worry too much about these desks; after next week, we won't be spending much time in this room at all, we'll be in the Danger Shop," which she was going to have way too much fun with, "or I'm scouting a few locations around the island for more practical lessons, too. But I'm getting ahead of myself.

"In this class, you're going to find yourself put in a variety of situations with limited resources and a need to make some sort of weapon to get you through. Sort of like if there's a burglar in your house and you're in the bathroom, so you've got to think how to make a shower curtain and a hairbrush work for you. Anything can be a weapon if you need it to be. But before we get into knowing how you think on your feet, I wanna get to know a little about who you are. And we're going to do that through..."

Amaya grabbed the blanket on the desk and pulled it back, revealing the wide spread of weapons and tools it had been covering. Who didn't love a big reveal? And she looked on them with a faint happy smiled before she remembered why she was really there. "Weapons, of course! And tools, because they're pretty important, too. It's all pretty standard stuff, and sorry, no firearms. I ain't quite got a hold of all that yet, but I'm working on it. So today it's simple. We're all going to take turns, come on up to the front, and pick a weapon or tool that you feel represents who you are. I don't want you to just pick the first one to come to mind or the one that looks the coolest, neither. Think about it, then come on up, let us know your name, and why you picked what you picked. Don't go waving them around or poking each other with any of them, either, else I'll kick your butt into detention so fast you'll see stars for a week. Even the youngest of you is old enough to know better, or else you've got no business being in my class."

And Amaya tried out her stern look, which she'd been practicing, but she still had no idea if she pulled it off or not.

"Oh, and if any of you are interested in being an assistant for the class, see me afterwards. Lugging all this stuff back and forth by myself ain't the easiest thing in the world."

"I'll go first."

"I'll go first."

Amaya took a moment to pluck out a tool from the assortment of items, hoisting it up proudly for the class to see. "As I mentioned, I'm Amaya Blackstone, your teacher for this class, and I'm choosing my blacksmith hammer. It's simple, it's effective, and it gets the job done, just like me. Besides, without this hammer...and this arm," there might have been just a little flexing there, "none of these other weapons could have been made. And it packs a pretty good wallop on the side of a bad guy's head when it needs to, too."

Which....didn't really say a whole lot about who Amaya was, really, but she felt that told you more than you needed to know.

She pointed the hammer at one of the students. "Alright, you then, step on up, pick a weapon or tool, tell us who you are and how you think it represents you, and we'll go around the room."

[[ weapons and tools are fairly moddable, but keep them basic and simple and mostly medieval-esque. You'll find no firearms or power tools in the mix this time around, though they don't have to be strictly European ]]

But Yang had a weapon that was literally who she was! UGH.

After a bit she wandered up and grabbed a cestus, sliding it on and doing up the straps with a practiced efficiency. "Yang Xiao Long," she said, tapping the metal plates to make sure they were in position. "--and this is a cestus."

"I'm blunt, you know if we have a problem, and people underestimate the damage I can do. So, we're a pretty good match." She flexed her fingers a few times, nodded at the weight, then untied to laces of the glove and put it back on the table. "That's about it."

A simple, to the point introduction with as few frills as the weapon that went along with it. Amaya gave a nod of approval.

"Good choice," she said. "Practical." And those always came in with some interesting dents that were fun to hammer out. "Thank you, Yang."

Uma didn't even have to pause to consider, she beelined for the cutlass and picked it up, testing its weight and balance in her hand. There were weapons aplenty on the Isle, but none of them this fine; she was used to having to make due with the best of a poor lot.

This sword was nice. She was going to try to keep it.

"'M Uma," she said when she was done testing out the cutlass's feel and not a second before. "Daughter of Ursula."

Which apparently meant nothing here, which was weird and exhilarating at once. "I'm a captain of the pirate ship the Lost Revenge. This is a better version of the kind of sword I use at home, and no pirate ought to be without one. Flintlocks and blunderbusses might misfire or fail to go off, there is no such danger with a sword you've spent years learning how to use."

The lack of hesitation. The knowledgeable and practiced way the weight of the sword was tested. The clear and genuine appreciation for the handiwork in the weapon.

Oh, Amaya liked you, Uma.

Plus, her childhood in Llewdor gave her plenty of experience with pirates, so that immediately sparked memories of those late nights sneaking into the tavern to hear raucous and thrilling tales of far off places.

"No arguing with the sharp end of a stick," Amaya nodded, then tilted her head, hand to her chin to reflect the oh-so-deep nature of her question (deep for her, anyway). "And would you say a cutlass reflects who you are beyond being a pirate and...precise?"

"I'm sharp," Uma said, with a grin that could be described as the same. "And with a sword, you know exactly what it is. Who it is. You either respect it? Or you get cut."

"I'll have to keep that in mind," Amaya nodded, smirking faintly, as it's just the sort of thing she'd expect a pirate to say. "Thank you, Uma."

Uma gave a wordless noise of acknowledgement and headed back to her desk. With the cutlass. Obviously.

Tip took her time looking over the collection of weapons and tools, even conferring quietly with Bill, her tiny bug-shaped silver robot, before finally making a choice. Eventually she reached over and picked something up, turning back to the class and holding up

A bellows.

"I'm Gratuity Tucci," she said. "And I went with the bellows because . . . well. I know what I look like. No one really looks at me and thinks I might be a threat -- you know, unless they're racist. I'm not big or built like a ninja or anything. I'm only really just starting to learn how to use a sword. But bellows are used to stoke fire, which is one of the most useful and potentially destructive forces there is. Plus . . . you know, you can probably whallop someone pretty good with them if you try hard enough."

It warmed Amaya's heart that so many of her students so far seemed inclined to just hit things.

She smirked. "When you reached for the bellows," she admitted, "I almost expected you to be telling me you were just full of hot air! I like your take on it much better. Thank you, Gratuity."

Hitting people over the head with things was just a good policy!

Tip nodded. "I mean, there's definitely people who would tell you that, too. Honestly, I'd probably go with a cat if I could, but you didn't have any up here."

She'd basically weaponized cats to get rid of a global invasion, after all.

"A...cat?"

This...clearly needed to be explored a little more.

Ringo chewed on her lip as she walked up and looked over the options. She was hoping to see something relatively familiar, but it was all old stuff. At least she recognized some of it?

Oh!

She spotted something she sort of thought she could use. Maybe.

Picking up a length of chain, Ringo swung it lightly to get a feel for the weight attached to the end. Then she nodded to herself.

"My name is Ringo Noyamano," she said, still sketching a little bow when she introduced herself. "And this is a kusari-fundo." Where 'this' was a three-foot length of chain with a small weight attached to each end. "It's, um, flexible, you know?" Because it was a chain. "And, uh, I like to think that I'm pretty flexible, too? I've gotten kind of good at adapting to different situations." Certainly compared to how she'd been when she first arrived at Fandom, anyway.

"Hopefully you'll get to prove some of that flexibility in this class," said Amaya with a nod. Because otherwise, she sort of failed at teaching it. "Flexibility's great. Thank you, Ringo."

Ringo smiled in mostly-relief, and bobbed a nod.

She turned to go back to her seat, but halfway there she realized she was still holding the chain, so she spun and rushed back over to Amaya's desk to set it back down, only she didn't do it carefully enough and the metal links rattled loudly as they landed.

"Sorry," Ringo said with a wince.

Amaya smirked a little, trying to hold it back, because she didn't want to embarrass the girl. "No worries," she said. "Lucky for you, this isn't a stealth class. And I would have tackled you down if you tried to leave with it."

She was joking.

Aloy went for the spear almost immediately, though she paused very briefly on her way past a bow. She picked it up, gave it a quick spin, and let the dull end hit the floor.

"It's direct," she said, holding it up. "But it's versatile."

Yes, Amaya was trying to make a pun. And, yes, she thought it was a pretty good one, too...

"Very good at highlighting your directness," she said. "But what about your versatility? And your name?"

Although Amaya was down with just Spear Girl, if she wanted.

"I'm Aloy," Aloy replied, eyeing her spear critically. "I make use of one of these back home. You just have to make sure it fits your prey."

Now that caught Amaya's attention. "Do you mean you modify them yourself to suit your prey?" she asked. "Or just that you have many different sizes and hefts and points available to you?"

"Kaylin Neya," she said, happily grabbing two daggers. "And I wear two daggers all the time, except here, of course."

Amaya was particularly fond of making daggers, so she couldn't help approve of the choice. "And how do you think two daggers represent who you are, Kaylin?" she asked. "Are you part of a set of twins? It can't just be that you always carry two with you all the time."

"Twins?" Kaylin looked horrified. "Gods, no."

She considered for a moment. "Daggers... they're like a part of me. Like an extension of my arms. When I don't have them I, well, I still tend to crouch a little and reach for them, which really looks dumb. And when I do have them, I feel more relaxed because I know I can protect people better."

Ahsoka picked up a pair of fighting staves. "I'm Ahsoka and these are balanced and versatile."

And they handled the closest to her lightsabers, even if they were more blunt.

"Which I'm assuming you're saying you're balanced and versatile, too, Ahsoka?" Amaya ventured.
