Sex Ed, Friday, First Period

As everyone came into class, Sam had a packet for them, along with a basket sitting on the desk.

"So, the fall break trip is next week, and while I'm not making assumptions about what any of you might get up to, I thought this might be a good week to talk about sexual protection," he said.

"As you can see, there are a lot of different options, and more options are becoming available all the time. Condoms are one of the easiest methods of having safe sex, because they protect against pregnancy and sexually transmitted diseases. There are condoms for guys and ladies, but the ones for women still need some work, from what I can tell. Women can also take birth control pills, but that generally requires more preparation before having sex, and the pills don't do anything to prevent disease. Also, they can cause a lot of negative side effects, which researchers suddenly discovered when they tried to make birth control medicine for guys." That was stupid, right? Because it had sounded stupid to Sam when he'd done his research.

"Obviously, the strongest method for being safe from sexually transmitted diseases and unwanted pregnancy is to not have sex at all, but I know that's not actually valid advice," he continued. "So, I'd like you to discuss which method you think you might want to use if or when you become sexually active, or just take some condoms from the basket for the trip."
