Class was in the danger shop and lucky for everyone, Cara understood the controls. Because Magnus? Magnus botched quite a few skill checks there.

"Hello, my name is Magnus Burnsides. Fighter. Sometimes rogue," he announced cheerfully before looking at his teachin' buddy.

"Cara," Cara said from her place next to a large covered box that was shaking and making hissing noises. Probably nothing to worry about there. "And the island hates you."

It was a class name and a statement of fact, handy!

Magnus honestly looked like he wan't to dispute that, but a glance at the hissing box stopped him. "Yeeeeeah. It kinda does. Sorry, kids. But. Buuuuut, we're here to teach you how to kick it's ass!"

Or to have fun watching them try. Look one of their teachers was earnest and the other was Cara, this was all going to end in tears at some point. Probably sooner rather than later. "Normally this is where introductions come in, but first an example." A pointed example. A pointed, toothy example.

Okay, it was a box of gremlins. Three guesses whose idea this had been.

Magnus was already hauling his shield forward and--why yes, yes there was a tiny little gremlin on it to show he had fought these little motherfuckers before. Possibly in the battle to get them into the box. He was soooo lucky he had a high AC. "Let's do this."

With the kind of cheerful security that came with only being successfully bit when you weren't wearing head to toe leathers and gloves, Cara tipped the box over towards the class, releasing the gremlins.

She didn't do semantics.

Well that made her a terrible NPC for him to bounce off of. That's right, you're an NPC to him.

"But I was still accurate, right?"

"Only in the most boneheadedly literal sense of the word accurate. Tell me, did someone drop you on your head as a child, or do you just like being obtuse?"

Inquiring minds wanted to know?

"Wow, you're acting like a pretty big jerk with that kind of talk," Magnus replied.

"You sent monsters after me moments after I stepped into this room," Aloy pointed out icily. "Pretty sure you were a big jerk first."

Aww, someone was a grumpy Gus.

"So you didn't sign up for a class about fighting what the island has in store?"

Being made outcast when you were baby didn't do great things for your ability to take any shit whatsoever.

"No, I didn't," Aloy said irritably. "I just got here. How was I supposed to sign up for anything?"

Shhh. Shhh. Let him adopt you into his giant canon about found families and hope.

"Wait, did you just wander into the classroom?"

Hey, now. Aloy would find her own family! ... eventually. Grumpily. While making loud speeches about how people needed to stop treating her like the freaking chosen one.

"No, I just wandered onto the island," she said, with the kind of patience you used on the very dumb. "And then it wouldn't let me go. And then it told me I had classes."

"Cool. Cool, cool, cool. Tone down the 'tude and maybe we can help you out here, yeah?" he suggested with a little nod.

"Are you going to stop sending little green monsters after me with almost no warning?" Aloy asked.

"....y--yes?" He did not sound confident. "Look, this class is going to teach you to be prepared for things that don't give you fair warning. But if you need any help with it, you can just say so and I'll help."

He was a protection style fighter, you see. You got better chances when he was next to you.

"You're very helpful," said Aloy, her voice dripping with sarcasm.

"Yes, I try to be," he said with nothing but honesty.
