Fandom High Welcome Picnic, Front Lawn of the School, All Day: Part II

Sure, someone could question just how all that ice cream was staying cold and not-melty without any immediately apparent means of refrigeration?

But really, of all the should-be-impossible things Fandom makes possible on a near-daily basis, this one at least was fairly benign. And delicious. So shh, don't question it, just enjoy it.

[OCD Up! This is the picnic post for general mingling. Roommates, fake siblings and teachers are all here. Since it's outside, the picnic is open to all students, teachers, and townies!]

Ringo licked her lips, a little glad that Jalian had said no. And then guilty for feeling that way.

"If you're sure."

She looked thoughtful. "But, um, maybe I can do something to help make sure that you have a blast while you're still here?"

Jalian looked at her curiously, then grinned. "Let me guess - Air Trek?"

You were sort of predictable that way, Ringo.

That brought a flush to Ringo's face, and a bit of a guilty giggle. "Well, it was my first thought," she admitted. Because, yeah, she was predictable.

"But if there was something else you'd rather do, I bet we could figure something out." See? She'd grown some.

But she was still hoping Jalian would say AirTrek.

Jalian smiled. "I don't have much time left; I'll be leaving in a day or two. But AirTrek would be fun."

"That soon?" Ringo's eyes went wide.

"Then we better not waste any time, huh?"

Jalian nodded. "When would you like to do it?"

Ringo grinned, shaking her head. "You're the one with a deadline. You tell me, and I'll be there."

Jalian shrugged. "Later today or tomorrow? After that, I don't know."

"We could go right after the picnic, if you wanted," Ringo pointed out. "Or," she raised a finger to tap the side of her cheek. "If we wanted to have more time, we could try tomorrow." Her teeth flashed. "I don't have any other plans, after all."

Jalian shrugged. "I'm just waiting for them to get the portal set up. Either of those works for me."

Ringo looked around the picnic, then turned her attention back to Jalian. "Well, how about right now, then?" she asked with a grin. "No time like the present, right?"

Jalian nodded. "If you like."

"Got anywhere in particular you want to go?" Ringo cocked her head curiously, raising a quizzical eyebrow.

Jalian shrugged. "Wherever is good."

Ringo hummed thoughtfully for a second. "Well, how do you feel about a trip around the island? Kind of a, I don't know, send-off tour?"

Jalian gave a satisfied nod. "That sounds like a very good idea."

"Then what are we waiting for?" Ringo asked. At which point she seemed to remember that she had a ginormous cookie in one hand.

"Hmm. I can probably eat this on the way, right?"

Jalian grinned. "If you can balance with one hand." She was fairly sure Ringo could, but there was still a bit of challenge in it.

"Ooooor," Ringo drew out the word, glancing at Jalian out of the corner of her eye, "maybe I could find someone to help me eat it. That'd speed things up."

Jalian shook her head. "Sugar," she reminded Ringo. It still made her ill in more than very small doses.

Ringo sighed. "Right." She shook her head. "You'd think I'd remember that by now." It wasn't the first time that she'd tried to get Jalian to eat something sweet.

But it occurred to her that it'd probably be the last.

Her smile flattened slightly. "Sorry."

Jalian shrugged. "People here eat a lot of sweet. Everybody forgets." She was annoyed by the necessity, but not by Ringo's asking.

"Doesn't mean I shouldn't do better." Despite the self-admonition, Ringo managed to put on a genuine smile. "I bet I can manage this on my own, anyway. Do you need to grab your gear?"

Jalian nodded. "It's not far." She had everything packed up and sitting under a tree, and headed over to get it.

Ringo followed after, spending a couple of moments in silence before a question occurred to her. "Are you already all packed up?"
