Isabel knocked on the door.

"Isabel, come in!"

She leaves the page open to cute clothes, unable to look away from the freakishly expensive bedroom furniture.

"Hi Prof. Cregg," Isabel said as she came in and perched on the edge of a chair. "I wanted to see what I needed to do to make up for missing class last week."

"Oh, let's see...how about this. Since I was in Cabo and didn't even teach, we'll call it square and not worry about it. Ok?"

"Cabo? Nice. I only wish..." She stopped for a second and then continued. "I had to go back to Roswell last week. A good friend was killed in a car accident. That's why I'm not so much with the funny today."

"Oh, Isabel...I'm so sorry. I understand, I really do. For class stick with the praise or blame angle. The epideictic is often used for a eulogy. That means 'about the good' basically. You do what you feel you can. Funny is just to lighten the mood of my dwindling class and sucky love life. It's by no means a requirement."

As she speaks, she rises and walks around her desk and leans on the edge directly in front of Isabel, "Do you want to talk about it? Your friend?"

"Okay, praise or blame, I can do that."

"As for talking about Alex, I'd like to, but I can't right now." She shrugged, "I know it's real. I know it happened but I still think he'll be there if I pick up the phone to call him. I think it just needs some time to sink in."

She lets out a heavy sigh and offers her hand. "I know, hon. It takes a long time to get over that feeling. Sometimes I still expect Simon to be waiting after work...and he never is. It's just, well, it sucks. Yep."

Isabel took the offered hand and nodded her head in agreement. "It does. Completely. But life goes on. I'm just going to have to deal."

"That's the key, you know. Dealing."

The day her students can hide something from her is the day she'll know she's succeeded. But as yet, none of them have mastered adjusting their non-verbal converstional implicature. Not even Isabel. CJ look at her. Hard. Like she's a liarliarpantsonfire.

"I'm going to have to start." Isabel met CJ's stare steadily. She's been lying to people about the truth since the day she came out of the pod. "If there's nothing else, I'd better get to my next class."


[ooc: The truth about Isabel will probably be coming out in the next week or two, feel free to question her then. In the meantime she's just not going to deal with the fact that Alex is dead and they almost left earth to go to another planet. Which means it's going to be even more fun when the truth comes out. She's going to break. I think. I thought she'd be worse now, but it turns out she's stronger then I thought.]

"I've got nothing." she grins, suspicious but not nosy, "My door's always pen, kiddo. Here or down in 128 if you need an ear or a shoulder...as long as you swear lot to take them off my body and run away with them."
