"Since apparently last week was 'too cold'," and yes, a slightly bruised-looking Anakin was using air quotes on that, "this week will be a lot warmer." He made a face. "Off to the desert you go. You deserve it."

Ugh. Sand. Soooo much sand. "Welcome to Namibia, a country in southern Africa. Put on sunscreen. I don't want to deal with surburned, whiny students."

And Anakin knew whining. He'd done more than his share of it when he'd woken up on the beach yesterday with a mouth that tasted like raw teal deer and bruising from a stampede of alots on his back.

See that huuuuuge sand dune in front of you? That's called Big Daddy and it's 325 meters high. You, you lucky person? You get to hike all the way up the ridge of it, and then run down. Better do it quickly--the desert is going to hit 120 degrees by 11am.

At least Ahsoka wasn't carrying a small Hutt or being chased by battle-droids this time.

Which was small comfort, really.

Did Jason maybe cheat a little and use some of that super-speed?

... Only when no one was looking.

Jyn trudged up the sand dune. She was still troubled by the weekend, and her preoccupation with it had her falling behind.

Pinkie may or may not have gotten distracted trying to build a sand castle in dry sand.

Also, did rolling down the dune count? Because she was super going to want to roll down this dune.

Were summer clothes a thing? Because Khadgar's robes weren't really built for sand, and he wasn't really built for sand, and he kind of maybe hated Anakin even more this week, along with himself for signing up for this in the first place.

Merrill was a long way yet from being able to learn how to actually move through the earth.

Was this going to stop her from trying to figure out how? No.

Which was why she ended up being so late.

Easy. Or at least not any worse than what her sergeant put her through. She made it up and down pretty darn quickly.

In Go for a Drive, you have to drive a Land Rover through a huge patch of soft sand on your way back from the Big Mama dune. Many a better driver than you has gotten stuck. In Go for a Hike, you head to Sesriem Canyon and head allllll the way to the back of it to count the catfish in the grotto pool back there. It's cramped and hard to fit and the guides know exactly how many fish there are, so don't just try to guess.

No. No more walking. She didn't care how many times it got bogged down.

Needless to say, Ahsoka missed repulsorlifts so much right now.

Jason briefly considered the drive option, then thought about the fact that the last two times he'd gotten behind the wheel of a vehicle... it had not ended well. Maybe the hike option would be a better choice, at least this time. And hey, he managed to finish relatively quickly.

The sand dune had taken a lot out of Jyn, so she tried driving.

She got stuck. A lot.

Pinkie was pretty well banned from operating motor vehicles in most locations she'd visited, but no one here knew that. . . .

She didn't so much get stuck as veer wildly about, raising enormous tails of sand waves everywhere she went.

There might be maniacal giggling involved.

There was no way Khadgar was hiking anywhere, so he picked driving instead. He managed not to get too stuck, or hit anything either, so that was an infinite improvement over the dune.

Merrill opted for the hike, not wanting to deal with figuring out how to drive a Land Rover.

. . . she was supposed to try and make friends with all the catfish, right? Not just count them?

She didn't trust those machines so she hiked. Forced marches for training helped with that, as her training in being observant helped her count all the catfish. And she was small, so the cramped area didn't bother her as much.

There's water and popsicles. Anakin's not completely heartless.

"Sand," was all Ahsoka said. Which should have been all she needed to say.

Jason was looking pretty damned pleased with himself by the time he made it to Anakin. Maybe he wouldn't be last-ish this time around?

Jyn wasn't her usual flippant self when she checked in this time, nearly dead last. She didn't even particularly care that she'd finished so badly.

Pinkie was way better at heat than cold, yes. She hadn't even turned colors this time!

"Ooo, popsicles!"

Well, except for her tongue.

Oh, there were so many people already here. Stupid sand. "If I don't complain about the weather this week, will it be okay next week?"

Kaylin made it back, looking around in some surprise for the other students. She was, as always, covered neck to toe in her usual dark brown tunic and pants, which in a way was good because it sort of covered the fact that she was drenched from head to toe from the heat.

She approached Anakin, still looking around. "Where is everyone?"

I have done both of these things! It is freeeeeaking hot there.
