Vehicle Proficiency (and Woodworking), Thursday

For the first class of this session, they were in the Danger Shop. But Magnus still hasn't gotten it working, so... use your imaginations, kids. Maybe listen to the word picture being painted.

"Okay, so this things doesn't know what a battle-wagon is, but that's okay. We can work up to them," Magnus said, squinting at the control panel like maybe if he shoved a robot arm in there it'd work.

Robot arms were his solution for everything.

"My name is Magnus Burnsides and I'll be your teacher for this class. Hi. Hello." He was being super professional right now. "And, um, let's do a round of introductions. And maybe what your experience with vehicles is. That... sounds right."

Look, he wasn't a teacher. He was a big, beefy, fighty boy.

Oh, oh, Peridot had a wooden duck! It wasn't with her here today, but she had one!

"I'm Peridot," she said, standing up and looking kind of proud of herself, actually. "And I've got plenty of experience with piloting spacecraft from Homeworld." A pause. "And a little bit of experience driving one giant drill."

"Thats great, Peridot! And it's good to see you again," Magnus said cheerfully. "I once raced through mining tunnels on a cart while being chased by a giant purple worm."

"I was drilling to the center of the Earth in order to stop a giant cluster of crystals from forming into one giant monster body and destroying the planet," Peridot replied, still looking pretty darn proud of herself. "Steven helped."

Not the goldfish.

Though that would've been awesome.

He would have been an asset on that mission.

"Always a good reason to do stuff."

"Well, yeah," Peridot agreed. "I mean, I live on Earth."

She was kind of a fan of not being on a planet that was about to explode.

"I do too." He paused to think that over. "Right? This place is called that, right?"

"This place is called that," Peridot agreed. "It's no Homeworld, but... it's okay."

She was still figuring this place out. A lot. It was a work in progress. An often frustrating work in progress.

That it was, Peridot. And Magnus couldn't even remember his actual home to agree even more on the matter.

"Way less magic here too."

"Less than there is where I come from, too," Peridot offered. "Less of a lot of things, really. It's just so... new."

New, full of life, trying so very hard to figure out where it belonged in the universe...

Still frustrating, though.

"I thought that too, but I have yet to see an elevator here."

Which was important to progress. Also to Griffin.

"Well, all the buildings are short," Peridot pointed out. "Except for the dorms."

She paused.

"I'm pretty sure there's an elevator in the dorms."

There you go, Griffin!

Thank god because it wasn't a canonical adventure without one being mentioned.

"Oh! The one building I haven't been to because that'd be creepy."

Peridot shrugged her shoulders, mostly because she just didn't get it.

"I don't spend much time there either," she shared. "The dorms are boring. But they are good for keeping my Camp Pining Hearts DVDs in."

She was a Gem of simple needs.

"What's that? Is it like those Caleb Cleveland, Kid Cop books?"

Please say no.

"... No." Peridot had seen those in the library. She hadn't read them yet, but there was one very clear distinction between the two. "They're television."

Sigh.

"Hi! I'm Pinkie Pie!" She did not have a wooden duck. She had a rubber one! "And I have ridden a whole bunch of buses! And I'm great on roller skates. Or bikes! But not motor ones. My friend Rainbow Dash let me use her motor bike once and I rode it right through the front door of the school." She gave a sheepish look. "The closed front door. IIIIII'm not allowed to borrow her bike anymore."

Magnus just nodded along and looked moderately concerned for the safety of the class. "Yeah, let's maybe avoid That? A little?"

Pinkie gave him a snappy salute. "I will do my best!"

"Well, good enough for me."

He was trusting you here, Pinkie.

"Jason," he said, wiggling his fingers in a little wave. "I can drive a car." Debatable, considering the last two times he'd gotten behind the wheel of a vehicle, they'd ended in horrific crashes. But at least during the second one he'd had superpowers!

He was also not mentioning the part where he piloted a giant robot shaped like a Tyrannosaurus.

But that part was so cool!

"Are cars the janky things off the island?" Because those were less cool battle-wagon.

"I mean, some of them are, sure?" Jason had to admit. Personally, he'd liked his truck pre-smashinating.

"It's okay, not battle-wagon racing isn't for everyone," Magnus said. "Especially not the ones who die doing it."

At least two of them he killed. With great malice.

No wooden duck, no. Wtf.

"I'm Dante," Dante said, leaning back in his seat. "I got plenty of experience driving motorcycles and cars and shit."

The end.

"Hope you washed your hands after that last one," Magnus replied brightly. Because he was not the teacher for sullen teens. No, he most certainly was not.

Dante considered that comeback.

"Lame."

Who was wondering where he could find some robot arms to rip off, honestly.

Maybe Taako could order some...

One of these days, Magnus needs to find out that Peridot can build giant battle robots. I'm just sayin'.

FALL SEMESTER.

BATTLE ROBOTS CLASS.

NEEDS TO HAPPEN.

Jason: *whistles innocently and pretends to not be interested AT ALL*
