Advanced Criminal Justice, Class 19, Period 1, 03.21.06

[OOC: Yay! Project! A more detailed OOC explanation of the project will be coming late this afternoon. Just work on developing your own theory based on cartoons for now. Groups announced in OCD threads. Metaphor and EC will be posted later as well are finally up. Class Info Post.]

The Tick was at the front of the room as always. Lockheed was givig hopeful glances to Cameron from his normal book shelf.

"Hello, students! Today you will be starting on your big project for the semester. It's actually pretty simple. I'll split you into groups of two. Each group will figure out a theory - any theory - about how Justice works. Take Parker's Darwinist view of Justice, for example (well, don't take it, it's hers). Once you have a theory worked out, you'll be using any of these cartoons documentaries on my desk to showcase the theory."

"Pending Professor Mac's approval which I totally forgot to get beforehand, oops, I'd like to use the Danger Shop to showcase these theories at life size and see if they hold true. Your theories and how they apply to the documentaries are due two weeks from today."

"This project is all about teaming up with someone and compromising on your views of Justice, so get into your groups and get to talking!"

"This weeks metaphor is lightbulbs. And this week's extra credit is to devise a battlecry for your project partner!"

"The stupider and more evil you are, or a combination of both, the faster a vending machine lands on your head. And many of the people here at Fandom enjoy acting as the vending machine." She gave him a look of concern, especially for the burn on his face. "Are you up for this? Because we can always meet about it later, if you need to crash out now. You look exhausted, when did you get in?"

Anakin looked thoughtful. "So they have to be both stupid and evil for the vending machine to fall on them?" He paused. "The smart and evil ones tend to have a depressing tendency to get away with things."

He bit his lip. "I got in a little before dawn today. I'm fine. Just had a bit of reminder that snow monsters aren't exactly the same kind of fight as what I have to face back home. I was a little out of practice."

"It's based on the idea that Evil itself is anti-Darwinian, and will always shoot itself in the foot eventually. Angelus, for instance, was not inherently stupid, but some of things he couldn't resist doing were. It took a while, but he still got a major appliance dropped on him," Parker pointed out.

"Ack. Sorry to hear it. Who were you fighting? And how's Obi-Wan?" she asked mischievously, hoping to either distract him or cheer him up.

Anakin nodded slowly. "That fits into what I've been taught about evil. They always sow the seeds of their own destruction even if they don't realize it."

He stared at the desk in front of him, biting his lip. "Obi-Wan is...Obi-Wan is. Um," he said. "That's why I had to go home. Obi-Wan managed to get himself into a bit of trouble." Anakin tried to keep his tone light but was missing by a fair bit. "He needed his apprentice to come rescue him." For a minute, the old cockiness was back. "For the third time."

"I'm assuming that it worked out okay," Parker said, with a certain amount of caution. "I'm glad you were there to save his bacon, though. Because that's some seriously cute bacon."

Anakin gave a sharp nod. "It worked out. Obi-Wan's back on Coruscant and the meddroids said he'll be fine."

He didn't mention the part where he had been forcibly removed from the room and tranquilized so that they could see to his injuries. He was pretty sure that wasn't cool.

He smiled. "Obi-Wan'll be up and nagging me in no time."

"Meddroids-- wow, I have no idea how serious that is. But I'm sorry." Parker studied him again, and tentatively said, "I think we had more fun on our Spring Break, and we were trying to keep Angel from dying. It sounds like you need a break from your return back to Coruscant."

She grins. "Fortunately, we're ahead of the game in this class, already having a theory. And the 'documentaries' won't be hard to watch. Anything I can do to help, though?"

"It was a long few months," Anakin said, running a hand through his hair. "Obi-Wan pretty much chased me off Coruscant to come back here. Said he couldn't stand any more of my hovering."

He smiled. "I wanted to come back, though, at least once I knew Obi-Wan would be okay."

Parker grinned, and shot Rory a look. "Can't imagine why you might miss this place."

"I have to finish my eduation, of course," Anakin replied innocently. He blew out a breath. "Okay, Darwinian justice. Did you have any documentaries in mind?"

"Not off the top of my head. Maybe something with Daffy Duck? He's not evil, exactly, but he is greedy and seems to shoot himself in the foot a lot. Or the face." Parker grinned.

Anakin winced and touched the scar on his cheek. "I have a sudden sympathy for people who get shot in the face," he said.

Parker slapped her hand to her own face. "Oh, god, I'm sorry. That was incredibly tactless. Forget Daffy, then. We'll find another one. Martian the Marvin, maybe, or some of the others. Do you want to email me your ideas, and I'll email you some others later?"

[identity profile] emo-padawan.livejournal.com 2006-03-23 02:20 am (UTC)(link)
Anakin smiled. "Not a problem. It's not like normally you know people who get shot in the face."

He thought about it. "I think I like the idea of Marvin."

Parker grinned in relief. "Perfect. Maybe sometime this weekend? Meet in the common room, hold a screening?"

"Sounds like a plan," Anakin replied, nodding.
