Sciencing Things All Sciencily, Monday

"We'll be talking about chemistry today, 'cos that's a science," Philomena announced. She had a little black chicken riding on her shoulder, but she didn't appear to think this was odd. "You see it on the telly all the time. When people get close together and they look like they're about to get their rocks off together except their clothes are on, that's chemistry."

Beat.

"Also something about fluids and gasses but that's more like intermediate chemistry, like when you've married and you have to start deciding whether to hold it in or not and if the price of easy access to booty is worth not farting half the time."

She eyed the class with all seriousness. "It's not," she offered, with casual, serious intensity.

"But since chemistry's sciencing and so's experiments, we'll be experimenting and measuring it today," she said, holding up the top of a stack of rulers. "I want all you lot to stand up and walk at one another, one by one, and then measure the exact distance at which you start feelin' the chemistry."

Hey, Peebee liked intermediate chemistry!

. . . she wasn't going to argue with this, though, More than one way to have fun.

Which didn't mean she wasn't snickering behind her hand for most of the lecture.

Well... Peridot was willing to give the teacher science points for the use of a ruler, but she was pretty sure that wasn't how chemistry worked.

She did make a note to find out what 'farting' was, though.

Yeah, Peridot had a ruler.

She was going to just straight-up walk right into a lot of people today with no definite results. This was a very subjective sort of experiment, wasn't it?

Rufus eyed his ruler thoughtfully.

It wasn't nearly long enough to fend anyone off. Or sturdy enough. Rufus did not want to have chemistry with anyone. And he supposed having a long ruler would imply other things about him that were untrue...

He eyed the rest of the class with a distinct lack of enthusiasm even the exercise itself was amusing on one level.

Peebee had a ruler, and a perplexed expression on her face. "What fun is knowing the exact distance? If it happens, it happens, you can't -- why am I taking this seriously?"

Because you're a nerd, Peebee, that's why.

Ahsoka was gripping her ruler more like a lightsaber hilt. This was probably not on purpose.

Isabela would be more than happy to help people out with today's assignment.

For science.

Peebee gave her a jaunty little salute with the ruler. What? Getting reproducible results was an important part of the scientific process.

Repeating things for science was terribly important, yes.

So it was with a mind full of scientific enquiry that Isabela started wandering over.

"Not entirely sure the ruler is necessary," Peebee drawled. Yes, this was slightly inconsistent with the science metaphor but shh.

"Maybe if I was a man," Isabela said cheerfully, because yes, measuring her dick was something she'd done during those weekends.

Peebee would totally do the same in that situation. "Then that would be an entirely different experiment," she said, smirking. "As opposed to finding out if previous results can be, oh, duplicated. For the sake of thoroughness, of course."

Re: Talk to the TA

Was that a smirk on Isabela's face? Perish the thought. "I'm a very big fan of being thorough," Isabela said. "And of duplicating results as many times as needed for satisfaction."

Of scientific curiosity.

Re: Talk to the TA

[personal profile] onefootoutthedoor 2017-05-29 05:36 pm (UTC)(link)
Of course. What else could it be besides scientific curiosity?

"Allow me to compliment you on your excellent technique, then," Peebee replied with an unapologetically pointed grin. "Wouldn't say no to a refresher on that."
good_for_six: (I: pb - biggrin)

Peebee just grinned. "You know what they say, when it comes to learning, nothing beats hands-on experience. Especially with science."

Isabela knew there was a reason she liked Peebee. "Hands-on clothes-off is the best kind of science."

It was mutual, Isabela!

"Extracurricular activity can be so enriching." Peebee smirked. "Gotta say, as student body president and TA? You really do go above and beyond. So thorough."
