BWI Airport Portalocity Lounge, Saturday Morning

All of Jughead's possessions fit inside a single backpack.

He didn't mind it. At least it was crammed as full as it could be crammed, that was good enough for him. And if he could keep people from figuring out that was the case, even better. This was supposed to be a break from –– everything. Riverdale and all associated drama.

Still, when he arrived in the lounge and checked his phone, he found himself wondering whether Archie even remembered he was moving today.

Whatever.

He dropped his backpack on the floor and leaned against the wall. Good. This seemed like a decent spot to stand in while eyeing everyone else warily.

He'd have to rip his own arms off if he was, Kanan.

"No! No, no, no. All human. I checked on that before I got the new body."

Slow blink.

Headtilt.

"You might have to back that one up and explain it to me," he said, finally.

"I died. Kind of," Magnus said. "I mean, technically I just had my body stolen by this real dickbag of a lich and had to be a mannequin for a little while."

He shrugged like 'what can you do?'

"Oh, is that all?"

Hey, don't knock it, Kanan. You'd have your body stolen by a dead witch for a few hours someday, and then you'd feel like an ass for giving Magnus the side-eye, wouldn't you?

"So, what, you got it back, then?"

Except that it was new. Who knew?

"Yeeeeeah. Turns out the guy at the Fantasy Costco... was growing one for some reason."

He didn't like to think about it.

"Oh my Pan, maybe Garfield's the reason why I'm here."

"He was cloning you?"

Okay, sorry, Kanan would have handled 'cyborg' better than 'clone.' He was giving Magnus such a speculative squint, now.

"Yeah, necromancy isn't cool." The more you know, kids. "But on the plus side... new body."

"Probably beats the mannequin thing," Kanan offered. See, he was trying. "By a bit."

A smidgen.

"Huge improvement," Magnus agreed, nodding enthusiastically. "I didn't even have a face."

"Yeah, I'd have to say that 'being a mannequin' has now made it to the top of my list of top ten things to never experience in my lifetime," Kanan decided. "Uh."

FACES WERE IMPORTANT.

"On the plus side, I now speak the language of their people." How was that a plus, Magnus? Literally, how was that a plus? In what scenario will you ever need it again?

"... I wonder how close that is to binary."

Kanan was pretty sure he wouldn't cope well with being stuck in a droid body.

"I mean, I'm a little binary," Magnus replied, point sailing right over his head. "But I'm sort of married? So I'm flattered, really. But I'll have to pass."

"I... what?"

Kanan blinked. And then his eyes widened a little. Oh. Oh. Oh boy. Now he was left wondering if this was an Earth thing, or just a Magnus thing.

Just wait until he learned what the Earth definition of 'jizz' was.

"Oh. Well, then I guess I'll have to make do with just friends."

Somehow. It'd be tough.

HE'D BEEN TO THE JIZZ CAVE?!

"Friends are always great," Magnus said, holding up his hand for another high-five. Which would probably be turned into a super complicated handshake if Kanan didn't stop him.

KANAN HAD BEEN IN MANY CAVES.

NONE WERE JIZZ CAVES, YET.

And hey, so long as Kanan could keep up with it, he could handle some kind of super complicated handshake. How bad could it really be?

"No complaints here, man."

There were fist-bumps, a shimmy-shimmy coco-pop, and a foot slap in there, Kanan. It was a lot of commitment.

"Okay, I'll go with you to this... where are we going?"

"Fandom. We're going to Fandom Island," Kanan replied, making a mental note to never high-five Magnus again. "If there's anybody who can help you get to where you're going, they're probably there."

YOU CAN'T PREDICT THE HIGH FIVE, KANAN. IT CAME WHEN IT WANTED.

"Awesome. I'll find a wizard and then I can tell Taako and Merle about this place."

... Wait, did he just say that guy's name was 'Taco?'

"A wizard, or a pilot, or a portal," Kanan agreed, after a pause. "There are options here, just so long as your reality isn't one of the ones that's closed off for a while. I had that problem when I first arrived to the island. It's a karking pain."

No, no. Don't be silly. It was Taako. Totally different.

"...that's possible?"

"I was stuck on that island for almost a full kriffing year before I could get back home," Kanan sighed. "It's easier to get back and forth now that Portalocity's fixed the issue, but it was still a pain while it lasted."

Magnus clenched his jaw and just nodded in understanding. "Well, hopefully it won't come to that."

"With any luck it won't," Kanan agreed. "But if it does, look me up, and I'll do whatever I can to help."

Because so help him, he kind of felt responsible for this guy already.

... Just wait until they got to the picnic and he realized that he was supposed to be Magnus' mentor or whatever.
