All of Jughead's possessions fit inside a single backpack.

He didn't mind it. At least it was crammed as full as it could be crammed, that was good enough for him. And if he could keep people from figuring out that was the case, even better. This was supposed to be a break from –– everything. Riverdale and all associated drama.

Still, when he arrived in the lounge and checked his phone, he found himself wondering whether Archie even remembered he was moving today.

Whatever.

He dropped his backpack on the floor and leaned against the wall. Good. This seemed like a decent spot to stand in while eyeing everyone else warily.

"Not a test for you, a test for us," June explained. "Maybe one about how we react if something completely impossible happens."

It seemed like something the Republic might do, if they weren't completely boring.

"That's a sort of shitty test. You can't even study for it," Magnus said, making a face. "That shouldn't be allowed."

"If they only tested you on stuff you studied for, you'd be a pretty bad soldier," June pointed out. "You have to be able to improvise."

"Improvising doesn't come from weird tests." Said the guy who ripped arms off of robots as part of his improvising. Slowly ripped them off. Maintaining eye contact with the poor, dead machine. "It comes from living."

"Well, I haven't died yet." Magnus. "Permanently."

He had actually died a lot.

A beat.

"Permanently?"

"There was a thing with a thing and we had this whole Groundhog's Day sort of deal."

He literally couldn't tell more details here. It was another thing.

"And there was the time with the liches, but I got better. Younger too. Pretty sweet."

"I have no idea what anything you just said means," June informed him, sounding a bit disappointed in herself. "Should I?"

"Probably not?" Magnus said, taking pity on the poor kid.

Yeah, as he said that word, it just came out as this sort of static. Like white noise when you knew words should be there instead.

June gave him an uneasy look. She didn't like not understanding things, but it didn't seem like she could even find words to ask what he had just done.

"Maybe we should start someplace else," she suggested. ""Like this: Hi, I'm June."

He was canonically bad at introductions and ending conversations like a normal human being. So, this was right on par for him.

"Hi, June. I'm Magnus."

"It's nice to meet you," June said, politely. "And are you going to Fandom High?"

She assumed so, but it seemed unwise to assume anything with someone who'd entered in a flash of light waving a sword.
