Today the class met in the Danger Shop, which had been programmed to look like the floor of the US House of Representatives, complete with some seriously '70s looking leather chairs. The place was empty other than some simulated tourists up in the balcony and the presiding officer--a hapless junior Republican Congressman signing photos of himself with a group of school kids who visited from his district.

"Today you're going to pretend that you're all at least 25 and are thus duly elected members of the House of Representatives," Steve began.

Tony raised his eyebrows at the class like he was urging them to consider this cool. "And the topic of discussion will be Internet privacy, as a very recent vote occurred repealing the protections granted to people in regards to what their Internet service providers are allowed to store, use, and sell concerning your information and browsing habits."

Which was only a lot dystopian sounding.

"It's even worse than it sounds," he added cheerfully.

"And it sounds pretty bad," Steve said. "There is a tradition in the House of the one minute speech at the end of legislative business of the day. Members can talk about anything, although the parties send out suggestions, and today we're giving you the topic of internet privacy. You get a half hour to research the topic since you don't have staff that already did that part for you, and then you get exactly 60 seconds to make your case in front of God, country, and the fourteen people watching on C-SPAN."

"Half of them are asleep, so don't be too nervous," Tony assured the class.

He was growing as a person if he managed ten minutes. Awwww.

"We could always find out."

That was just tempting fate on being locked out.

"You wouldn't dare," Steve said, narrowing his eyes.

The look he got in response to that was the most shit-eating grin possible. Because this was Tony Stark here.

"You are a terrible person," Steve proclaimed.

"And yet I have my charm," Tony replied.

"Is that what we're calling it?" Steve said.

"Ouch, Rogers," Tony replied, nudging him with his foot. "Between you and these chairs, I'm genuinely hurt."

"It's mostly the chairs," Steve told him.

"Oooh, I'm telling Washington that Captain America is judging their chairs."

Tony was terribly mature, you see.

"I'm sure they'll get over it," Steve said.

"Maybe it'll make them change them out." It would not. "The patriotic shame."

"As long as they don't make 'em red, white and blue," Steve said, making a little face.

"You've cursed them into doing just that." Sorry not sorry, Steve.

"They'd clash with the walls," Steve said. "Maybe that'll stop them from doing it."

"Because aesthetics are a strong suit here," Tony replied dryly.

"It's a little much," Steve said, "but that's part of the point, right?"

"You'd think we would want our politicians to be humble, but then look at who people somehow elected..."

Orange and awful and orange.

Steve shuddered. "Yeah. I've gotten nothin' to explain that."

"No one does," Tony replied, giving him a pat on the shoulder. "At least your world is politically sound."

ISH.

"Maybe we should go to that version instead," Steve said.

"You probably could get them more access to things that way," Tony granted him. "Might want to warn your Tony about it in case it makes the news."

Him being there and all.

"Maybe we can skip the Smithsonian," Steve said.

"You just don't want them to know about the song," Tony teased.

"I really, really don't," Steve agreed.

"No Smithsonian," Tony replied, taking pity on his poor, poor friend's sanity. "Maybe the The Mall and the White House?"
