She smiled and patted his hand as she tucked the weapon away in her pocket. "It would be my pleasure. I suppose you prefer the works of Shakespeare and his contemporaries over more modern plays." Her tone suggests that she wouldn't mind if he did.

"I think Shakespeare is a lot bit overrated. But a good actor can salvage even his prose."

Hand patting, people talking in the theater hating, beautiful Ivanova. Dammit, dammit, dammit.

Ivanova rolled her eyes. "I agree. Although it could be from having suffered through them during too many English classes. I much prefer Chekhov. Have you ever read or seen any of his works performed?" she asked, smiling at him.

"I haven't. Is he from your time? I'd be interested in reading something good."

"He's actually from almost four hundred years before my time, early twentieth century," Ivanova replied. "But one of the great Russian authors in history. I would recommend his play 'Uncle Vanya' or," she smiled, "'Ivanov'. He also wrote hundreds of short stories."

"I'll have to stop by Aeropagitica and see if they have that. We could meet at the Perk for a cup of something hot and to discuss it."

Just coffee and not in the Izzard sense. Right.

"That would be . . . lovely," Ivanova smiled. "Who knows - I may even one day get you out to Caritas and up on stage, what with all this appearing around town you've been doing."

And she's not even a little bit impressed that he could say the bookstore's name. Honest.

"Singing on stage will require more rum than I had last night. I'll be making you pay my bar tab." He might be feeling just a little green at the idea of drinking more rum so soon after last nights beach peregrinations.

Yes, peregrinations. He did almost write a dictionary once.

"Gladly," she chuckled. "I couldn't think of a worthier cause." Her eyes sparkled with humour as she smiled up at him, almost fondly.

She was thinking about how easily Tonks got her to sing, about how they had laughed their way through the drinking song, forgetting the last verse entirely. But, of course, Edmund wouldn't know that. He'd just see the smile.

How taken was she?

Edmund smiled quite fondly at her. "Perhaps after we discuss Chekhov."

The house lights dimmed and he looked expectantly at the stage. Already, this was much better than he'd expected.

Ivanova was still thinking about Tonks as the curtain rose. And thinking about Tonks when all the leather started parading about. Specifically, thinking about Tonks in leather.

Oh, right, play. Serious dramatic work here.
