"Alien goldfish." Susan paused, then had to ask, as she took a sip of her space coffee. "How can you tell they are alien goldfish?"

"They told me so. They're in the dorm lobby right now, although they've stopped speaking to me. I don't think they liked being thwarted," Tick pondered.

"And who does?" She would like to believe that he's mad, but if he is, it's very calmly and cheerfully so. And he is a fellow faculty member. So.... "Did they say what they wanted, before their capture?"

"They wanted me dead," Tick explained with more enthusiasm than would normally be considered sane. "You see, my sidekick had given me a goldfish for Christmas, but she was in fact a scout for the aliens. Anyway, she died of a rare disease and the goldfish armada decided to take wee fishie revenge on my by threatening Rory. Their ships were poorly designed so it was easy to thwart their plans."

"I'm very-- glad? To hear that?" Susan clutched her popcorn a little more closely. "Wee fishie revenge?"

"Fish are weird," Tick said simply.

Lockheed shook his head to Susan sympathetically.

Susan smiled at Lockheed gratefully. Then had the thought, the dragon makes more sense than the man, and mentally sighed. "Mr. Lockheed, have you and Tick been friends for very long?"

Lockheed liked being called a "mister." He smiled and held up five of his finger-like claws, adding a grunt that sounded kind of like "Months."

Susan nodded, realizing he no more had fully-functional vocal cords than Eustace had, if Lucy's story had been right. "Are there any other dragons about, here on the island?" She heard how wistful she sounded, then looked abashed. "Forgive me if that was a rude question."

Lockheed gave Susan an inquisitive look, then shook his head.

"As far as I know, he's the only one of his kind on the planet," Tick explained.

"I see. I had heard tell of other dragons, in other places, and wasn't sure," she explained to them both. "But they were reportedly much larger. You are an adult, are you not?" she asked Lockheed again.

Lockheed nodded. Hey, nobody around here knew his age anyway.
