Don't Be a Hero [Thursday, 2nd Period]

Cara's class were in the Danger Shop again, which resembled a dorm room, albeit an extremely large one.

"Most of you are showing tolerable progress," she said. "Which means it's time to talk about how complacency will get you just as dead as stupid. It sneaks up on you, you get into a routine, you stop paying attention, you ignore the warnings about recent land shark attacks, and before you know it-"

A knock sounded at the dorm room door. "Can someone get that?"

"Who is it?" Hyacinthe asked without opening the door.

Look, he was no fool. He knew this was a magic room that (mostly) only did what it was told and the teacher had just been speaking of complacency. Only an idiot would blithely open the door in that scenario.

"What is a 'Candygram'?" Hyacinthe asked, suspicious.

Sorry, land-shark! Hyacinthe was too fantasy!medieval to be fooled by you!

"Seems unlikely," Hycinthe called back. "Pick a lie and stick with it. The bigger the lie, the more likely it is to be believed, simply because it's too absurd to be the truth. Now try again and really sell it."

Hya, no. This was not the point of the exercise.

Hey, he still hadn't opened the door. In fact, he was lounging on the bed, poking through the simulated books on the desk.

"Who are the flowers from?" he called. "It's all in the details!"

Who was he not to help the land shark live his best life?

"...Did you just cough all over my candy?"

Right, but at this moment, the land shark was so appallingly bad at it that even the attempt was damn near insulting.

"I'm not even sure it's my candy. Who is it for?"

See? Insultingly bad.

"Oh, this isn't his room," Hyacinthe said, sounding apologetic. "He's on the next floor. Try there."
