Mathematics: All Classes: Friday 3.17.06 Period 1

Broots was oddly perky for someone who had to be awake by eight in the morning. "Good morning everyone! Hope you're all awake, and if not...coffee and donuts are by the sign in sheet. Fruit for those who don't like donuts. I'm sure you must exist.

Beginners, you guys will be doing a variation of the project Intermediate did last week. Either by yourself or in pairs you're going to draw out Pascal's triangle. Fifteen lines per person minimum please. Then, you'll choose a number from two to ten and you'll color in the numbers that are divisible by your chosen integer. Go crazy with the coloring, art supplies in the back. For the write up part, tell me why you chose your number - I felt like is a valid reason - and then describe the pattern you found.

Intermediate, you guys are going to be building roller coasters today." He paused. "Well, at least planning them. First off, at the computer terminals, you get to play around with this little toy and try to get the car to get to the other side. I'd like two different designs from each person, but feel free to bug your neighbor about what you think will work or not. Then, you get to design another roller coaster with this toy. Again, two designs, make them both fun and safe. And lastly, tell me if you would be interested in actually building a roller coaster in class or not. Okay, have at it!

Oh, and Susan and Logan? I need to speak to you at the end of class? Thank you."

Chocolate glaze!

After a few minutes, Kiki remembers to go back and sign in.

Victor, signs in, grabs some of each and tries to keep his teenage mind out of the gutter.

Pip signs in and selects "All of the above."

When presented with "All of the above" on a multiple choice quiz, it is often wise to choose it.

Kiki draws hers out painstakingly by hand this time, rather than using magic. She colors all the multiples of 2 - red, in complete defiance of the holiday.

Kiki grinned a little. "Yes!" she answered. "It's like a... what's the word - a fractal, I think. Of triangles."

Victor draws out his triangle in green, then colors the multiples of 3 in with grey. Because he's subconciously missing Walter

"Hey...they're grouped together in little triangles," he observed.

Pip draws out the triangle and starts coloring in the multiples of five in yellow. 'Cause it's his favorite color.

He looks down at the pattern. "Huh. That's interesting."

Cameron draws out his triangle and colours the multiples of 9 in blue.

Pippi colors in multiples of 7, because 7 is a lucky number. She colors it in Orange, because that's her favorite and in honor of the Holiday because she can be innocently crass like that.

She finds that it's just a line at the bottom and thinks that's dull. So she makes a second and colors in multiples of 2 in green, because she thinks the pattern it would make would be pretty.

John starts playing with the coasters. THey don't all fall off the track.

John would be totally down with the roller coaster in class.

Erga, sorry to hear that. Yeah, just do a handwavey or mention triangles. That's pretty much the answer to all of them.
