Driver's Ed, March 17th, Periods 1-2

The Danger Shop is set up to look like a somewhat quiet residential neighbourhood. There's a main street that has a traffic light at one of the intersections, and a few side streets. There isn't much other traffic, but a car will pass by here and there. A few pedestrians are also walking along the sidewalk.

"The object of today's class is to get from here," he waves at the general area around where everyone is standing, "to there." He points off into the distance, beyond the traffic lights. "As with last time, the shop will reset itself if anything life-threatening or major-injury-incurring starts to happen."

Zero eyed the pedestrians warily as she climbed into the car. "Those are holograms, right, an' not, like, actual people in danger?"

"Oh, okay. Swerval." Zero went through the checklist perfectly before she started the engine.

And then she floored it.

Aeryn's had to land in hangar bays with people inside before. This actually shouldn't be so bad. At least she doesn't have to land while avoiding other things.

She gets in the car, starts it again without checking mirrors or anything like that, and, because she hasn't figured this out yet, asks, "All right, no weapons on the car. But then how do I get everything to get out of my way?"

"I've read the manual several times, sometimes just out of boredom. I've also got the vehicle. They should know to clear the way," she says.

Anders has decided that going through pre-drive precautions like checking the mirrors and things like that is a lot like doing pre-workout warmups, so he checks and adjusts his seat, mirrors, and steering wheel with almost fanatical deliberation before he starts the ignition. He doesn't floor it this time, although there is a bit of a lurch as he starts out of the driveway.

. . . hey, he's actually not too bad at this. Except for the part where he strays a little too far over the center line and nearly gets his side mirror whacked off by a car going in the other direction.

Hamlet actually manages to drive all the way down without hitting anything this time.

Sadly, he does it while driving hunched over the wheel at 10 kph.
