It was a frazzled Atton who showed up in class five minutes late.

Sorry, class.

"I have no excuse, so I'm not giving you one," he said. "Today, I want to run you kids through some more practice with the handgun. Now, I'm not going to make you try running and gunning - usually a bad idea anyway - with a live gun, which is why we get this sim."

He waved at the extensive maze of broken-down buildings and walls before them.

"You'll get a simulated gun that acts like a handgun in every conceivable way possible," he said, "Except it doesn't shoot bullets and nobody can get hurt. Your job is to make it to the other end of this gauntlet without dying. Sometimes that's going to mean shooting something else." Beat. "Nobody give me any looks, they're made of cardboard. Still trying to shoot you, though, so I suggest not standing around like an idiot when you see one of them."

He eyed the class.

"That's it. Go."

Grab a not-a-real-handgun from the sim table, maybe look around for some eye- and ear protection...

The Gauntlet

This gauntlet most closely resembles a war zone in the heart of a city: some walls are left standing, others aren't. Dirt paths lead up between buildings. Somewhere at the far end is a blue sign, high up in the air, indicating the end point.

Sometimes, a cardboard figure will pop out from behind a wall, or from a corner. It'll try to 'shoot' you, a process that involves little red flecks appearing on your outfit. (Don't worry. It's fake sim-blood which looks a whole lot more like jello than blood.)

Shoot them first. Your gun will behave like a normal gun in everything but the presence of real bullets.

Kaylin was surprisingly good at this. And was fully in Hawk mode, totally serious about the whole thing.

Way to make a girl miss being able to her bring her lightsabers to lessons even more, Atton.

Ahsoka mostly just dodged any 'bullets' being fired at her. When she did return (or preemptively) fire it was with a disturbing degree of accuracy.
