Dream raised his eyebtrows, watching the action.

He had an odd feeling of deja vu.

But he often felt that way anyhow.

Still, there was something new about Miss Parker ... something that was not-new.

"My queen, the girl--you're not bloody Parker either, are you? Parker, are you--the girl is strong-willed. I am sure I will have her--are you in there?--under control in a moment." Puck whirled away from his queen, and snatches of dialogue could be heard.

"Look you--"

"I want you out--"

"I can't do that right now..."

"Promise no one gets hurt. I can't do that either. Promise or I swear will find a way to hit you with a mallet."

"She fights, and rages, but has little skill. Strength of will is useless without knowledge," Titania said absently, keeping her voice low. "We arrived in good time, I think. Promise the girl what she wants. We do not have time for petty quarreling with mortals."

I'll give you mortal, bitch!

A stab in the mind, but it skittered away, badly aimed and very expected.

Child, you weary Us. I am Titania, whom you would imitate. Allow this possession, for the sake of Our amusement. No other harm shall occur.

NO!

Titania firmly ignored Parker's rantings, and paced over to Parker's mark. "Well, Robin? Or must we find you another steed?"

Dream watched the girls, then grabbed Parker's wrist. "Parker," he hissed, voice steely. "Is this a game to you, girl? Or are you who I see?"

Everything went still a moment, and Titania stared, shocked then terribly saddened.

"My Lord Shaper. I am who I seem. Are you?"

"No, my lady. I rather like the girl. She has--I worked hard for this, you can't just pop in and take over like bloody feds!--spirit. I can, little girl, and I have. It's only temporary. OI! Did she call me a horse??"

"I too am who I am," Morpheus said. He noticed Zero arguing with herself as he spoke, and if he had internal organs, his heart would have gone to the pit of his stomach.

Then, very quietly. "I thought you were gone from this plain, Titania. What brings you and your kind back?"

"A play that we remember well, performed in a manner new and -- unseeming." Titania relaxed her arm, then carefully freed it from his grasp. "The veils between the worlds tear and rip here, easily traversed. Upon viewing the preparations for this merry fete, we thought to make some 'improvements' of our own."

She studied him for a moment, an expression in her eyes that Parker had never had. "My Lord, you are here-- most unexpectedly."

What... he's dead? You knew him before, and he's dead now?

Hush. Say nothing. He must not know.

Parker's confusion allowed Titania to regain her own control.

"Do you gainsay our rights here?"

"Will you just shut up? No! Professor, there's something in my head! That's not the Library! Oh, you had a possessing spirit before? That would explain--it won't leave!" Puck composed her--her? Whoever heard of a female Robin?--self and said, "I apologize for my unseemly behavior, lord."

"You have done worse, Robin Goodfellow. Do not hurt this mortal and I shall let you be," Dream said coldly.

He turned to Titania. "I will permit you to stay, for the moment. I lack the power, here, to evict you all in any case, without breaking many rules, as you know."

"But take care not to harm the actors during your stay. They are but children, my lady."

"This one doesn't seem very childlike," Puck muttered. "But aye."

A cool look, hiding the turmoil within, and then a nod. "As you will, Dream. Our purpose here is revelry, not riot. Puck? We join the court now, I think. And decline to test the patience of our host too greatly."

You better not hurt anyone using my body, Your Majesty.

You played Us well, in the preparations. You wished to do Us honor. For that, I forgive the impertinence. But do not test me, little girl.

I worked for this! Zero's right, you're being unfair--

And perhaps you shall have a scene or two, then. If you cease to be a distraction. Now. Hush.

Titania looked to Robin Goodfellow, and cocked an eyebrow.

"I know how you enjoy your revels," Dream said, face impassive. "Very well."

He glanced at Titania again. "If you have not bored yourself by intermission, please come talk to me. I have news that may interest you."

And I have news, my Lord Shaper, that I can not bear to share with you. "As you will," Titania said, inclining her head. "At intermission, then."
