Psych 101 (Thursday, March 16, 5th Period)

Jenny is sitting at the desk, laptop in front of her and sign-in sheet in front of the desk.

"Okay, guys, sign in, sit down, and take a look. We're going to start prepping for our final project, which is experimental design. So today? We talk about an experiment."

On a projection screen in the front of the classroom is this image.

"Read through your handout on the Asch Conformity Experiment, and then start talking about a few things:

Check out the study in the handout. What do you think you would have done in the situation? Be honest with me. Not everyone in this school is a rugged nonconformist.

Next week? The scientific method."

Elizabeth read the handout, frowning slightly. "I'd say what I thought was correct," she said. "I prefer to come to my own conclusions independantly, and I don't tend to succumbe to peer pressure."

"I don't know. Not really. I want to say I would say what I thought, but I don't know if that is really true. If I thought something might happen if I didn't agree, I might agree, just to avoid trouble."

Stark shrugged. "Something always happens."

"People don't like to be different," Elizabeth said simply. "You get treated differently if you are."

"Yes, because you're less likely to conform. But also, you're more noticable in a smaller group than say, an entire school."

"Experience," Elizabeth said briefly. She then grinned slightly. "Besides, sometimes it's just fun to disagree with the rest of the group. Makes for a much interesting tutorial."

Elizabeth smiled sweetly at Ms Calendar, but didn't offer any further explanation.
