"Today we're not going to debate," Steve said, looking a little like he'd bitten a lemon.

"We're going to watch a debate," Tony said, clutching his coffee like a lifeline. Never had he missed being able to donate to campaigns than now. "The presidential debate to be exact."

Otherwise known as Dumpster Fire Shitstravaganza 2016.

"Without alcohol," Steve said, looking pointedly at Tony's coffee.

Tony raised his eyebrows like he was completely and utterly offended at the implication there. Also that Steve really thought he could sit through this a second time sober. "Of course. We're in class."

And it wasn't his fault it took something special to get Steve drunk.

Hey, he was lucky Steve hadn't punched the TV Monday night. "We're going to time how long it takes before one of you starts yelling," Steve continued. "Personally, I have 20 bucks that it'll take less than 10 minutes."

"We even found a bingo game for you kids," Tony said, taking another sip of is coffee. Just coffee here.

"So everyone take a card and let's play a rousing game of 'Oh God, One of Them Is Going to Have Nuclear Launch Codes in 6 Weeks,'" Steve said.

Blue's hand shot up. "If I already watched the debate do I have to watch it again?" She was pretty sure that was cruel.

Steve glanced at Negasonic. "Are you also going to catch fire?"

"I could make her explosion like ten times more powerful." This was only true if Negasonic's powers were magical in origin, but Blue was considering that need to know information that her teachers didn't need to know.

Steve's eyes went wide. "You're also excused."

Negasonic also raised her hand.

"If I watch this I might literally explode. And I'm using literally in the proper context. I may truly explode."

In fact there might be smoke coming off the top of Negasonic's head right now.

Tony's eyebrows shot up as he nodded. "Go get yourself a danish or something."

Away from the angry Cheeto man.

"Cool."

She didn't need to hear anymore. She grabbed her bag and headed out the door in a sullen fashion.

Ada...didn't much get the details of a lot of what was going on. Politics weren't really her thing, and generally the Millers elected one member of the clan who'd done at least some college to do the research and tell everyone which way to vote. No one had time for a political circus when there was an actual carnival to run.

But one thing was really, really bothering her, and eventually she put up her hand. "Um, if'n his jaundice is so bad, why's he takin' time t' be on th' tv instead of in th' hospital?"

Not that she'd mind if he fell over dead, because he wasn't a very good liar or a very good person, apparently, but it seemed odd.

"That is actually just a really terrible fake tan," Tony replied.

.....

"Rich people," Ada sighed, dropping her head in to her hands. "I ain't never gonna understand rich people."

Sorry, Tony.

"It's okay," Tony replied, trying and failing not to smile. "Some people have bad taste no matter how much money they have. Or claim to have."

Sure.

Who are calm professionals.

Or had Irished up their coffee this morning because politics were the absolute worst.

Take a guess which one it was. Go on.

Steve could...fake being a calm professional. For a while.
