Jono was in an impressively good mood this week, having made it through the weekend more or less unscathed. He could live with being a slightly more obnoxious version of himself with significantly less trauma than he carried around with him these days. He'd been there and done that, after all. Fed some ducks. Fed some cats.

It was basically a normal weekend, but with more wrapping his face and less actually opening the Groovy Tunes.

//Morning, class,// he greeted, once it looked like everyone had filed into the Danger Shop. //This week, we're going to play a game called Ding. You'll pair off, start playing a scene, and whenever I ring this bell,// he picked up a cowbell and gave it a clang by way of demonstration, //whatever you just did in that scene? Do something different. Say you walk into the scene and say that it's a lovely day. I ring the bell. Say something else. Announce that you're looking forward to a party, or point into the distance and shout about a tornado. Carry on the scene with your edit, ignoring whatever was discarded when the bell rang. Every ring of the bell means you'll have to come up with something new off the top of your head. Please, try not to get too frustrated if you find that you have to backtrack often.//

He didn't want to have things get thrown at him, after all.

//Just to give you all a starting point, pick a nursery rhyme or a fairy tale that you're fond of, and play off that. Red Riding Hood going through the woods to bring her gran some treats-// he rang the bell, //that is, to set up the football game for her on pay per view. If you're telling even remotely the same story when you're done than you were when you started, I clearly didn't ring the bell enough.//

"Good point. I bet if we can just find a boat, we'll totally be able to figure it out." She pursed her lips thoughtfully. "Actually, I think I saw a boat tied up down on the beach."

Maria was about to work out how to mention mermaids when Jono rang the bell.

Ringo blinked, frozen for a second before she remembered the rules for the game.

"Oh! Um. Uh. I mean that I have no idea where we could find a boat. Is there anyone we could, uh, borrow one from?"

Maria pretended to think about that. "Well, there are those guys that live near the beach. They seem to always be making something new. Maybe the seven of them have a boat?"

"Oh!" Ringo caught onto that one. "Those short guys? Maybe they've made a boat just the right size of us!"

She grinned. "Let's go!"

Maria was loving this and Ringo was an awesome partner. "Yes, those are the ones. It would be great if they did."

"I'm pretty sure that one of them owes me a favor, anyway." There went the bell, causing Ringo to sort of pause again as she tried to figure out what to say instead.

"Um. I, uh, hope that they help us out? Sometimes I think they're kind of scary?"

"They can be when they're all together, yes." Maria agreed with a nod. "But maybe we can talk to just one or two of them? Maybe bring them a treat?"

"Good idea. Maybe we can distract them, get some of them to check on something else, and then bring donuts or something?"

"Oh, I really like the way that you think. Everyone likes donuts, right?"

"Of course!" Ringo grinned. "And if we get a dozen, and give them one each, that means there's five donuts left for us!"

That made the plan extra delicious.

"You are the perfect partner," Maria grinned back. "We could even --" The bell rang again. "We could also get mochas and go surfing."

"Oh, surfing! I've never done that before, but it looks fun."

"What about you? Can you teach me, or should we just wing it?"

"I've only done it once, but it seems like it would be easy to learn. Winging it is always fun."

"Yeah, I'm sure it'll be--" Ding.

"Er, I mean, maybe we should stay near the beach, though. Because I can't swim?"

"Oh, then no surfing until we teach you to swim. I don't want to lose my friend just for an adventure."

Ringo grinned. "So you want to teach me to swim instead of how to surf." She considered that. "I suppose that'd be fine, but then I feel like I'd have to teach you something in return."

Maria grinned. "That's what friends do, right? Also, I like learning new things."

"Then maybe I can teach you to, um, play the guitar?" Good thing they were just making this up since Ringo totally didn't know how to do that.

Ding.

"Or, um, I could teach you to juggle?"

Maria didn't tell her that she already knew the guitar because if that was what Ringo wanted to teach her, then that would work.

"Oooh, juggling! That sounds like something very new and cool."

"Yeah. By the time I'm done you'll be able to juggle, um," Ringo frowned, trying to think of something impressive. "Knives?"

Maria's eyes widened and tried not to laugh. "Knives? Okay, I can imagine that would be a really amazing skill to have."

The bell rang again.

"Oh! We could set up targets and throw knives as we're juggling them, too?"

"Of course! After all, I'm an expert knife-thrower. Um, an expert at knife-throwing?" There was totally a term for that, right?

"We'll be the most amazing and talented knife throwers to ever have knife thrown!"

"Exactly! And then we can, um, join the circus or something?" That's what knife throwers did, right?
