BWI Airport Portalocity Lounge, Saturday morning

After missing a flight due to airport security feeling the need to wand over every single piercing she had, Negasonic was in a bit a mood. Then she saw the glittery banner welcoming all Fandom High students and the portalocity lounge.

Ugh. Glitter.

She dumped her duffel bag on the floor and slumped into a chair. Five seconds later she had her phone out to tweet about what a lousy flight experience she had and how little she was looking forward to going to a new school.

She immediately got a tweet back from Colossus. "Give it a chance."

Ugh. Optimism.

She slunk down in her chair a little farther and hoped the shuttle would get here soon so she could at least be going someplace.

"Any chance we can leave one of them behind?" Negasonic asked sarcastically as she shoved her duffel bag in a compartment.

Kuzco had already made a wonderful impression on her.

Eliot snorted. "Could, but that might actually be the one thing this place'd fire me for. And I kinda like my job."

Negasonic rolled her eyes in response. "Yeah. Driving a bus is very rewarding."

One day she might learn that being sarcastic to elders is a bad idea.

"It is," Eliot agreed easily. Honey, you were nothing he hadn't seen before ~~yet~~. "But it ain't the job I was talkin' about. This is more of a volunteer gig." That he'd been informed he was doing about an hour ago. "Now c'mon. There's plenty of room for sulking in the back."

"Who's sulking?" she replied... ok, there was a bit of a sulk as she plopped down in her chair. "Let's just get this over with and go to this place."

"Right, sorry," Eliot said, rolling his eyes. "S'pose all the cool kids call it brooding."

Well. I mean. They had when he was a kid, so it didn't seem likely, but it was worth a guess.

"Take it a new school wasn't your own idea?"

What? I don't look excited to meet new people and make friends?"

Yep. Sarcasm.

Eliot smiled faintly. "Thrilled." He'd been using sarcasm longer'n you'd been alive, honey. "I figured it was an ironic, teenage hipster kind of thing."

"Yeah. That's totally my wheelhouse. So if you're a volunteer what do you do when you're not driving this thing? Tell kids the patently obvious?"

Clearly Negasonic was trying to top Kuzco at this point.

"Nah, that I'll do for free." Especially the patently obvious stuff that teenagers were too self-involved to notice. "I'm a teacher. Doin' Shop this time around. And I run the diner on the island."

And in his spare time, he beat people up. It was a good life.

Hey. It's the little things that make life living.

"We're going to an island?" she asked, her eyebrow furrowing.

"Too cool to read the brochure?" Eliot asked. "Fandom High. Located on Fandom Island, a quaint little French style island town right on top of a giant multi-dimensional nexus." Eliot smirked faintly. "Hope you like occasionally fighting for your life. And ponies."

At least Pinkie didn't seem to be teaching, this time around.

"I was transferred. Didn't really care that much to get into the details," she admitted. "So how often does this school get blown up?"

Hey. X-man trainee here. The whole 'fighting for your life' thing was a package deal.

"Only the one time, as far as I know," Eliot said. "We did just get back from being blasted into space, though."

"... Okay."

Now she was beginning to wonder if Xavier or Colossus had actually read the brochure.

"Sounds pretty fucked up."

There was a chance Xavier just thought it'd be a good character building experience for her.

"It has its moments. The big stuff usually only happens about once a semester though." It was almost like clockwork. "The rest of the time it's almost normal."

What was his life that, say, waking up as a woman for a weekend could be classified as 'almost normal'?

Negasonic nodded her head in thought at Eliot's words. Honestly it didn't sound as dangerous or weird as Xavier's school for the gifted.

Then again Eliot didn't mention the genderswapping thing.

"I can live with that," she said with a shrug.

Eliot huffed a laugh. "Glad to hear it," he said, dry as a bone. "We'd be devastated otherwise."

"There're easier ways to get rid of 'em once we get to the island," Hardison advised, like the great teacher he was. "Besides, this way you get to see him get traumatized first."

Negasonic let that comment hang in the air for a moment before responding.

"You mean like a place to ditch his body?"

She was just clarifying that statement. She seemed to be okay with that concept in general.

"As a sometimes teacher, I ain't allowed to confirm or deny that," Hardison said, giving her a cheeky smile. "Perils of bein' responsible an' all."

Beat.

"Which I am."

Trust him! He was a thief!

"Sure you are."

Not believing that at all.

It was like she was used to dealing with adults in positions of authority who only had a nodding acquaintance with the idea of 'responsible' or something!

"Responsible enough not to leave any of y'all at the airport where we're nominally in charge of y'all," he said cheerfully. "Close enough."
