So You Just Met Your Relative From The Future, Friday

"The school hosts a Parents Weekend every fall," Ben began, "which can sometimes require a bit of prep work before they arrive. Who would you ask to come? Would you introduce them to all of your teachers? None? What about your roommate?"

"To make matters more complicated, you may even be dealing with alternate versions of your own relatives at the same time," Obi-Wan said. "Perhaps a different version of a brother or a sister - perhaps someone who has had painful experiences with your arriving family members. Or perhaps someone who has long since perished in your timeline... it can be shocking."

Ben nodded. "Or has turned evil."

His family, everyone!

"So there are no small number of problems that can occur," Obi-Wan said. "We have prepared for you three scenarios. Please pair up and roleplay your way through one or more of them. It helps to be prepared."

They were a very small class. They'd have the time.

Obi-Wan needed more tea for this. Possibly something stronger than tea. He kept thinking back to Anakin, and this was not particularly helpful.

"In a sense, I suppose," Obi-Wan said ruefully. "Though no one will be coming across the Causeway for me come September."

"Not unless Luke's a lot more precocious than I've ever been told," Ben agreed.

"Fortunately for us all, Luke has yet to learn how to run away on his own," Obi-Wan said dryly.

"Doubtful," Obi-Wan said, with a wan little smile. "Owen's not too fond of me, I'm afraid."

Ben looked genuinely surprised to hear that. "But you're Obi-Wan Kenobi."

"So I am," Obi-Wan agreed, measured. "But that is not a terribly convincing argument."

"It should be," Ben muttered. "You were a great general and taught Granddad without taping his mouth shut and just leaving him like that forever."

Just skipping past Anakin's dark side fall there, Ben?

Ben let out a soft sigh. "He wasn't himself."

"Perhaps," Obi-Wan said. "But you can imagine it leaves others to stew in their own version of the truth."

"He stews?" Ben replied, then made a little face. "Sorry. Of course he stews."

"Owen believes I'm responsible for Anakin's death, one way or another," he said, "Even if he knows nothing of the details. So no, I am not a favored guest in that home."

"I didn't think Owen particularly cared for Anakin," Ben said thoughtfully. "Dad's not really open about that time of his life, but Owen didn't speak of...much...in glowing terms, from what I've gleaned."

"Owen is not particularly fond of anything pertaining to the Jedi," Obi-Wan said. "He blames us all for ruining his family."
