How to Win Friends and Influence People, Friday, Period 1
"So," Bob started when the students were there, "today's topic is 'Six Ways to Make People Like You'." He sniffed. "I can do it in one: bribe them."
Kanan glanced at Bob, barked out a laugh that was halfway to startled, and then shook his head and grinned. Apparently he was feeling much better this week. It was difficult to get drunk on cheese.
The trade-off was that the sky appeared to be screaming, but it all certainly smelled better.
"That's one way to do it," he noted. "For example, I'm thinking that right about now, if I were to hand out earplugs, you guys might like me a little more than you did before. Unfortunately, if your ears are plugged, you won't be able to hear the lecture, so I get to stay up there on your jerk rating scale. Tough luck, maybe next time."
"AAAAAAAAAAAAAH," went the sun.
"Whereas if I were to suggest that if you didn't mind being briefly possessed, I could soundproof the room, I bet you'd like me even better," Bob said a bit smugly. "Also I'd like you more, because having hands and doing magic for a bit is something I enjoy. It doesn't have to be one-sided."
Sorry, class. The lecture needed to pause for just a moment while Kanan looked at Bob.
"You can do that?"
The screaming was driving him nuts, okay?
"Probably," Bob said. "I mean, it'd be a complete barrier, but I think there's enough air in here to last the class for an hour."
"AAAAAAAAAAAAAH," went the sun.
"... Hell with it," Kanan sighed. "If we start to get lightheaded, I'll have you take it down. Get it over with."
Bob grinned and clapped his hands, then stepped into Kanan, who shook like a dog shedding water and grinned. "Well, then."
He raised his hands and sketched in the air, glowing runes spreading out into a bubble that included the whole room, which was suddenly quiet. He stood enjoying it for a moment, then Bob stepped out again, still grinning.
Kanan looked... mildly bemused as he re-gained control over his body. And then quietly interested as he tilted his head and listened. And then, relieved.
"Now that we can hear ourselves think," he said, "let's just jump right into the class discussion. Can you guys think of things that you might be able to do to make people like you? Not just bribery. We touched on listening last week. Some people like to be listened to. Just like they like the sound of their own name, and, I don't know. Food or something."
Why were these two allowed to teach this class, again?
Because this was Fandom.
"So, get together or on your own - six things you can do to make people like you!" Bob said. He was still a bit smug. You all liked him better already, didn't you? It was almost like a real class demonstration! "Let's see what you all come up with."
