Journalistic Integrity (Wednesday, March 15 - 6th period)

Rita smiled and tapped her wand to the board.

Light purple, sparkly writing appeared.

Work on your midterms.
You may go to the library or research on your own.
Remember, this in 25% of your grade and will be due on Friday.
NO EXCEPTIONS

She shrugged and silently took a seat behind the desk.

[You can handwave it when you turn the midterm in on Friday, but you will be expected to talk about what you supposedly researched in class.]

Callisto approached Rita after the rest of the class left. "Professor Skeeter?"

"Hmm?"

"Well, I was wondering if Alex and I would be able to stay in the classroom to, uh, work on our midterms Together. Alone."

"Oh?" Rita's expression turned to one of glee. "Surely. I'll just...get out of your way, then."

She sidled out of the room, grinning knowingly.

Callisto blinked. "That was...easier than I expected."

Krycek snickered, moving to stand beside her as they watched the door close behind Rita. "Yeah. Though I don't doubt she's going to try watching us - hopefully she's still pretty out of touch regarding computers." He turned and beckoned Cal to follow, walking over to stand in front of the huge screen dominating the head of the class. "These should still be keyed to Jake and myself. Screen, turn on."

Obligingly, the screen turned on, showing a default view of several news feeds on mute.

There was really only one intelligent response. "Shiiiiiiiiiny..."

Krycek grinned. "They are." He raised his voice very slightly, saying, "Screen, replay recorded footage - third period today, normal speed, no sound." The screen obliged, showing the Advanced Journalism class from earlier, boasting several different angles of Rita making Crichton into a pot-bellied pig. "I hope she doesn't get bored and make him into anything that needs, say, water to breathe," Krycek noted, watching the screen.

"She's turned him into a seahorse," Callisto remarked. "Since he's still alive I assume she did water for him as well. So does this record everything that goes on in the school, or just this classroom?"

"Just this room, the closet, and the attached apartment," Krycek said, after telling the screen to pause. "Which she doesn't seem to be using. But you never know if this might be useful, especially as she doesn't know about it. It's also got everything recorded from the beginning of school.

"Screen, replay class recording, October 13, 2005. Thirty-five minutes, focus on rear, right hand corner of the room." And suddenly there was a nicely framed shot of girl!Jake and Rory kissing in what seemed like a very involved fashion.

"Rory and Jake?" Callisto raised an eyebrow. "Did you take away his coffee for that?"

Krycek half-shrugged, smiling faintly. "We didn't start going out until just after that, actually." The recording kept playing as Jake turned back into a guy (http://community.livejournal.com/fandomhigh/215606.html?thread=10155830#t10155830) and Logan punched him, whereupon Krycek stopped the recording. "Anyway, possibly useful, and as an intern, you should have access. Computer, this is Callisto. Grant her access to surveillance and all records, my authorization in Spider Jerusalem's absence." He looked at her. "It's pretty sophisticated and will respond to your voice now, but probably still best not to do anything in front of Rita, just in case."

After a moment, he smirked. "Try telling it to play a random recorded sequence. Test it out."

"Still, I could make a mint on Skeeter versus Crichton footage alone. Not that I'd do something like that," Callisto did not have an expression of unholy glee on her face. "Screen, replay recorded footage, uh, random time sequence."

Krycek snickered, then frowned as the scene changed to what seemed like an empty classroom. The angle of the recording shifted, centering in on Krycek and Jake giving a very active example of floral hex (http://courier-gavin.livejournal.com/16611.html). "Screen, stop recording," Krycek ordered quickly, sounding just a little frantic.

Callisto tilted her head to the side. "Looks like I'm not the only one who got lucky after the fashion show."

"Yours probably wasn't recorded," Krycek said, staring at the screen with wide eyes.

"Well, up against a wall in a dark corner of the gym, and you never know where those cameras are," Callisto tilted her head the other way. "Nice technique, by the way."

"Thanks," he said, absently. He finally managed to pull his gaze away and shook his head. "I completely forgot about this. That it'd be recording, I mean, not that." Krycek grinned slightly in memory, then managed to tone it down to a smirk. "...Anyway, let's not mention to Jake that it's here? He's really touchy about people watching him shift and that's on here as well."

Callisto nodded. "Don't let Jake know there's footage of him shifting, check."

Krycek snerked. "Thanks. That's it though - you're go for using the system whenever you want. If you have any problems with it, let me know, but I'm guessing on it half the time anyway."

"I'll remember that," Callisto said. She decided now would not be the best time to ask how to make copies of footage. "Thanks, Kry."

"Not at all. Let's hope it turns out profitable in some way," he said, grinning, as they headed for the door.
