Adventuring for Idiots, Because Clearly You Need It [Thursday, 2nd Period]

Cara had led her students over the causeway again this week, though today the bar they'd ended up in was considerably less shady.

"So last wekk you tried to figure out if people were trustworthy enough to listen to when they askd you to go on some kind of quest," she said, once they were seated. "Now today we're going too assume that you were actually concinced to do something, which brings us to whether you actually have the skills to acomplish your task, since there's very little point in storming the castle if you've never even picked up a weapon.

"Ideally you'd be able to find a well-balanced team whose skills compliment each other, but since that never happens, you're going to have to work with what you've got." Cara gestured at them. "Talk with the person next to you, work out what skills you have that might help accomplish the quest I'm about to give you, one way or another."

Tip looked around for someone to discuss with, and wondered if "a toolbox full of weird alien tech" counted as a skill.

At least she was a decent photographer. She could handle Leroy's request, whoever he was.

"We sneak in as wedding guests, you can record the wedding on a phone?" Ada suggested, considering this. Photos were one thing, but shockingly she knew a pirate that would kill for video of the event. "--an' I'll 'accidentally' knock him into a broom closet as they process past us an' leave him there until it wears off?"

Yes, they'd still be married, for various definitions of 'unharmed,' but Ada wasn't above stuffing a teacher into a closet for comedy for Great Justice.

"No, but I got a friend who's been in their class b'fore. She says they're sweet on each other, but they're monks or somethin' and can't get married. Kinda sad."

Did Ada suspect that Isabela had elaborated in the interests of her stories? Yes. Did she care? Eh...no.

"That's too bad," Tip said. "But it doesn't do well for our cover as guests if neither of us know them. Maybe we'd be better off posing as caterers or wedding planners or something." She brightened. "I have a friend we could use as a spy!" She reached up and picked a small silver bug-looking thing out of her hair, where it'd been posing as a barrette. "Bill here can fly in and see what kind of ceremony they're planning, so we can sound more like we belong there."

Admittedly, the intel Bill gave her would be in written Boov, which she was not awesome at, yet. But this was an imaginary assignment, so she could imaginarily be better at reading Bill's bubble messages, right?

"Kind of both," Tip said. "He's an alien billboard." Because that was an explanation.

Bill floated up from Tip's hand and spouted a stream of bubbles from the little horn on his base, forming an elaborate, self-contained, floating bubble pattern in the air.

"He says 'hi'."

Bill flew in a circle, dispersing the previous bubble formation, and formed another one.

". . . He mostly likes people talking to him," Tip said. She actually had no idea what he'd written this time. "Back on New Boovworld, where he's from, everyone ignored him."

"He was used for advertising," Tip said. "Programmed to get up in your face if you were ever looking in one spot for too long."

Bill deflated his latest bout of bubbles and bobbled in the air. Tip smiled.

"He's gotten over that, now."

That sounded, um, farfetched. But this was Fandom, so for all Ringo knew, that had actually happened.

She looked around for someone to team up with. Hopefully someone who knew about dealing with crazy people with evil lairs.

Clearly, Velma has socializing down.

Ringo grinned back. That actually was a pretty good way to start the conversation, honestly. "I'm really good at AirTrek."

She sort of suspected that Velma wasn't going to know what that meant, though.

"I can do that." And, fortunately, Ringo basically never went anywhere without her backpack these days, so she could even demonstrate. "A friend of mine once described it as rocket-powered rollerblades. Which isn't really accurate, but kind of gets the point across?"

She unzipped her bag and pulled out something that did look rather like rollerblade if there were only two wheels and they were bigger.

"They have really powerful electric motors built into them, so you can go incredibly fast." Ringo had totally raced a motorcyle with them before. She'd lost, but it hadn't been the sort of blow-out most people would expect.

"And I, well, I animate things." With a self-conscious laugh, she explained, "The official definition is 'semi-autonomous animation of totemic images of persons and animals, most specifically cloth figures, including minor transformation to grant access to species-appropriate weaponry.' Which basically means I can bring toys to life. Sorta."

Close enough for government work, as the saying went. As Ringo had put it, 'not really accurate, but it got the point across.'

"They're semi-autonomous," Velma said. "So, they do what I say, but they're capable of their own interpretations of that? Like, if I gave a vague order like 'take care of my room,' they could figure out how to clean it or whatever. More the difference between sentience and true sapience, I guess."

"Um, right." Those were not really words Ringo knew, but she thought she followed along.

It made her grin. "Um, I bet that's resulted in some, er, unexpected situations?"
