So You Just Met Your Relative From The Future, Friday

To say Obi-Wan looked mildly perturbed to be here with a wholly different Skywalker covering a very strange subject would be... an overstatement. There was a hint of it in the arch of his brow, but that was about it. He strode through the classroom with confidence.

"Welcome," he said, "To this class on a rather particular kind of strangeness that this island will bring to you. As you may know, it is a nexus between various worlds, and... various times. Oftentimes, this simply means you'll encounter people from places you have never heard of. Sometimes, it gets rather more... complicated. Personally."

Ben nodded vigorously. "I'm Ben Skywalker," he said with a tiny smile and a trace still of a Coruscanti accent. "And yeah, I'm one of those Skywalkers."

Sorry, Ashoka's brain. "I'm Anakin's grandson. Luke's son. And Cade's grandfather, which may mean more or less to you depending on where you fall on which timeline."

He spread his hands. "Now if you've been here for more than a few days, you've probably met some future children from possible timelines. You might have met people from your own galaxy but a different time. And it can give you a huge headache, and that's okay. It takes some time for your brain to adjust."

Obi-Wan cleared his throat. "My name is Obi-Wan Kenobi," he established. "The best way to begin preparing yourself for these headaches is to think of the worst," he said. "So I would like you all to give your name, class, and one situation in which meeting a relative - past, present or future - would be very awkward for you, or worse."

Obi-Wan remained stoic under that glare. Funnily enough. "Yes," he said. "Well... surprise."

"He's not even a youngling!" If Anakin was going to have grandchildren and not warn her about them, they could at least be small and adorable.

"I'm Mayday Parker. I'm a sophomore. And, I don't know," Mayday said. "I think meeting young versions of my parents, or my grandchildren or something would be awkward in any situation."

The female clone of the teenaged alternate reality version of her dad was somewhere on the island right now.

"There is always some element of awkwardness involved," Obi-Wan agreed, "But some might edge closer towards the traumatic than the merely awkward."

Like, say, showing up on an island to find that your deceased brother-in-arms was alive and very much remembered you setting him on fire.

"I believe the question was 'awkward or worse.' I'm choosing to stay on the awkward side of the 'or,'" Mayday joked. "Honestly, it's still weird to me that this is a thing that happens here at all." In like six months she was going to travel back in time to have an adventure with her dad. Get used to it kid. "I think I'll be ready to consider the 'worse' by week three."

"Then I'll have to ask you again come week three," Obi-Wan said wryly. "I suppose you are lucky if the island hasn't forced you to confront this already."

"I asked the island to go easy on me when I got here. Said 'please' and everything," Mayday joked. "Honestly, I'd be surprised if there was anything too weird the island could really do with me. Honestly, my family almost as basic Earth normal as you can get. Even if I met my young parents here or something, I can't imagine it would get too traumatic."

Okay, her mom was a former supermodel and actress. But even those people became moms eventually.

She would soon learn it could get much, much worse.

"I'm Velma Martinez, I'm a senior, and dealing with my parents is already awkward. It really can't get much worse by throwing alternate timelines into it."

Velma's parents had sold her to a corporation at twelve in order to get a percentage of whatever revenue she made as a superhero. Now they were blackmailing her for whatever was left because the gravy-train had ended and the tabloids would pay handsomely for the civilian identity of Velveteen, one of the few heroes to ever walk away from The Super Patriots, Inc.

And that was just the tip of the iceberg.

"You'd be surprised," Velma said, trying not to sound as bitter as she was. "Maybe if I met them early enough I could convince them not to get together. Seriously, only bright sides here."

"I-I uh." Okay, try that again, buddy. "I'm FN-2187 and I just want to state for the record that I did not sign up for this class. And I am a sophomore and I don't have any relatives, because attachments are weakness, so meeting any relative would be extremely awkward." Funny how the First Order was a little like the Jedi that way, huh?
