Around The World in Sixteen Challenges, Thursday

Anakin and Obi-Wan were in front of Portalocity again this morning. "We're going to stick with Europe today," Anakin told them, "and are going to increase the difficulty level."

Someone had taken Laura's critique of last week's class slightly personally. Sorry, everyone.

Obi-Wan sighed the sigh of someone who had had a full hour's argument over the previous party's ridiculous post-class demands and was mostly just glad Anakin had scrapped the flamethrowers from the equation. "Somewhat," he said, "at a normal and sensible pace."

He cleared his throat. "We are about to welcome you to a local festival called Oktoberfest," he said. "It appears to largely concern beverages we'd rather you not imbibe. Not that any of you would, of course."

The sarcasm was dripping, there.

"Because that would be wrong," Anakin agreed, nodding. "But mostly because none of you want detention for drinking alcohol during class. We're going to a country called Germany, which is...down and to the west of the country we were in last week."

"The festival also revolves around food," Obi-Wan continued, "Which is to say, we hope you have some expertise in the art of baking." He looked vaguely amused underneath all the facial hair. "As well as a healthy appetite."

Anakin smirked. "So get your costumes on--" he pointed to racks of lederhosen and dirndls that were not optional, "--and get ready to race."

"May the Force be with you," Obi-Wan said solemnly, bowed his head, and then turned around and walked into the portal.

Was this outfit supposed go make Eggsy uncomfortable? Because he was gonna wear the shit out of it.

And look hot.

He lacked fashion based shame, people.

Rey decided this was stupid.

It also felt unfair to have a Portalocity-dependent class when she couldn't get home and her new boss was fine with her adding to a lawsuit against them.

Rey's life had gotten weird.

The dirndl had more layers and was longer (not hard in either case) but was otherwise similar enough in cut to what she usually wore that Isabela had very few problems wearing it (especially in this chill), she was keeping her boots on though.

. . . look, Cosette thought the dirndl was kind of adorable, okay?

Honestly, April liked this look. She even took a moment to finger-comb her hair into two braids, which she figured were a necessary addition to the ensemble in order to really be authentic.

Laura had worn worse. She would survive.

Kaylin put the stupid things on over her other clothing. Just try and fight her on it.

This week is your last chance to find a partner before the team challenges start next week, so there's a few minutes free for any last-minuters who haven't found someone ~~timezone compatible~~ yet.

Alex tugged at her costume, trying not to look to awkward as she looked around to see if anyone needed a partner.

April did still need a partner, although she was a very competitive person and would probably be a nightmare to work with. She tried not to be totally obvious as she critically eyed potential partner candidates.

Kira? Laura looked around. They had talked, right? Laura wouldn't blame her if she changed her mind though.

Today's detour splits up in two options of equal challenge. You can climb the Eagle's Nest... or go towards the small kitchenette that has been provided for you and try to cram all the work of an authentic Schwarzwalder Kirschtorte into the class period.

Don't complain. Obi-Wan had to negotiate for the cake option.

Because Obi-Wan clearly never watched the Great British Bake Off to see how fucking impossible that cake was.

Eggsy went with the climb, thank you.

Alex decided to go with the climb, figuring that in this case it would be the easiest option of the two.

Rey had a lot of experience with climbing, and absolutely zero with baking. So she did the climb, and did it pretty easily.

Isabela went climbing, it seemed the easier option.

Cosette liked to think several semesters of Hannibal's classes had given her a pretty good grasp on baking.

That said, she would tell anyone who asked, in no uncertain terms, that expecting her to bake that cake in the allotted time was utterly ridiculous. So climbing it was!

One thing April wasn't very good at? Baking.

She liked to deny it, but she knew the truth. So, she was going to climb. It wasn't so bad, although she could have used a warm-up. She made a mental note to warm up before class next time just in case.

You can either opt to eat two (2) kilos of currywurst that has been provided to you by a nearby stand...

... or you must spend fifteen minutes tapping large steins of Weissbier for a very large mass of people currently congregating near the tap. One in four customers wants you to bring over beer for their entire five-person table, and they want it brought over, so get ready to play balance the beer steins!

Having climbing to the Eagle's Nest, Eggsy had worked up an appetite. Which is why he picked the currywurst option. And snagged a beer or two.

You offered a teenage boy food and beer, what did you think would happen, guys?
