Fandom High Welcome Picnic, Front Lawn of the School, All Day: Part II

Picnic-ing in January - still not the best idea ever! But there were tables and chairs set up in the sun, and a nice bonfire going, and plenty of warm food for everyone to encourage socializing for as long as possible.

[OCD is up! This is the picnic post for general mingling. Roommates, fake siblings and teachers are all here. Since it's outside, the picnic is open to all students, teachers, and townies!]

"Oh, like you wouldn't laugh if I told you somebody thought I was a girl," Anders said, with a flick of his ponytail. "You have to admit it's at least a little funny. Mortifying, but funny."

"Well, you are very pretty," Kathy told him. "Which is a much better compliment than being boyish."

She pouted for another moment or two and then gave it up with a laugh. "If anyone asks though, you're going to swear up and down that it was my plan from the beginning, right?"

"Of course it was," Anders said without even blinking. "Obviously you wanted to be as misleading as you could, and if people will buy you as a boy, why not go for it?"

Kathy beamed at him. "See, that's what I'm talking about."

This right here was why they were best friends.

"So, what's new with you? Anything thrilling or exciting--or embarrassing!--that you've been up to that I should know about?"

Anders grinned back. "I wish. Honestly I barely left the dorms over break. I was just feeling lazy. I'm glad to have the picnic to knock me out of that."

"Pfft, unacceptable," Kathy declared. "That's it. We're making plans. I'm dragging you out somewhere and we're going to have fun. We'll get drunk again and you can tell me all about your underwear."

"You assume I wear them," Anders teased, but he was laughing. "No, that sounds fun. When and where?"

"You know that I'm just going to assume it's a Room 322 thing, right? That you and Dante have some weird no underwear pact that I don't need to know the details of?"

Though wasn't that a pretty tho--nope! Derailing that train of thought at the damn station.

"I'm pretty much free most evenings. I mean, I'm in Baltimore most nights, anyway. Uhh, Tuesday? And we can either have drinks over dinner here on the island? Or find somewhere off? Celebrate my eighteenth birthday and all that?"

"Now there's a mental image I can't unsee," Anders told her, about the no underwear issue. (Not that it wasn't a pretty thought -- look, he wasn't completely immune to noticing the way Dante looked.) "Anyhow, Tuesday sounds good. And happy late birthday."
