Fandom High Welcome Picnic, Front Lawn of the School, All Day: Part II

Picnic-ing in January - still not the best idea ever! But there were tables and chairs set up in the sun, and a nice bonfire going, and plenty of warm food for everyone to encourage socializing for as long as possible.

[OCD is up! This is the picnic post for general mingling. Roommates, fake siblings and teachers are all here. Since it's outside, the picnic is open to all students, teachers, and townies!]

Ringo grinned. "I bet." He looked tough enough, after all. "But if you do that, you'll have to find somewhere to put the bed you're not using."

She laughed softly. "Oh, did you get assigned a roommate?"

"Yeah, one of the other new students," Skaar answered. "Velma? She seems okay."

"Oh, I haven't met her yet. But I hope you get along!"

"So what brings you to the island, anyway?" Ringo asked after a brief moment of silence.

"After some confusion at the start, I don't think that's going to be a problem," Skaar said. "And I'm here for school. Learning to work better in groups. Pretty much what you might expect. How long have you been here?"

"A little over half a year, so not that long." She grinned. "Hey, maybe we have some classes together!" That'd be cool!

"I haven't looked at my schedule yet, but I can guess the kind of classes I'm signed up for." Being a gamma-powered barbarian kept things simple. "And you like it here?"

"Definitely!" Ringo beamed. "It's a ton of fun! The classes aren't really what I was expecting, but they've mostly been interesting. And I get plenty of chances to practice AirTrek." That last was accompanied by a slight tug at the strap that she was using to sling a pair of ATs over her shoulder.

"I'm not familiar with that," Skaar said. It wasn't exactly an invitation to talk about AirTrek since, well, he could jump for miles at a time and so he didn't have interest in methods of travel. But if Ringo decided to use it as an invitation, he would listen.

Well, Ringo didn't need an invitation so much as she needed an excuse. Though she would be a bit jealous of the jumping for miles thing if he brought it up.

"Well, they're basically like skates with miniaturized motors in them, so you can go way faster than you could unassisted." She grinned. "And you can get some serious airtime." That was the best part.

"How serious?" Skaar checked. Probably not as serious as his jumping, he figured.

"Well, with the right pair of ATs I can get up to nearly two hundred miles an hour." She hadn't tested her top speed recently, but she probably hadn't slowed down much, if at all, from her peak.

"Not bad. I can travel over three miles in a single jump," Skaar said. "The average speed is hard to track because of wind."

"Whoa." Ringo's eyes were almost comically huge behind the lenses of her glasses. "Seriously?"

"That's awesome!"

"What's it like?" Tell her everything, Skaar.

"Windy, mostly," Skaar said. "Then you make a crater and either stay in it or make it worse by jumping again."

"That sounds pretty sweet." Ringo sighed. "But somehow I doubt that's something you can really teach, huh." Probably had to be born with super strength or something.
