Finals week always made Cosette a little bit sad, but at least with the holidays coming up she had ample distractions, like planning what to do for Christmas at her father's. (He would have bread and water and sit mostly in the dark if left to his own devices, she knew that perfectly well. And that was not acceptable.)
Every so often she had to set aside her planning to swat at the bothersome mistletoe with a yardstick, but then she went right back to coming up with a menu and scheming to get decorations up around the house. There was no stopping the train of Cosette bringing the cheer once it really got rolling, especially around the holidays.
