Mac nodded, "I am so glad I just have the one dietary limitation to worry about, otherwise I would hardly be able to eat anything."

She lowered her voice a little, "doesn't help that I can barely understand one in three of his words I don't suppose. Makes food identification kinda tough sometimes."

Ivanova snickered at that. "You get used to it. At least he's speaking English." She paused, considering. "I think he is, anyway."

"That's true," she conceeded. "I would understand far less if he were actually speaking Swedish. Languages never were my stong point." She paused then added, "although I know how to say 'I had one, but the wheels fell off' in about seven different languages. I don't think that's going to get me very far apart from giving me conversation fuel."

"'I had one, but the wheels fell off'?" Ivanova laughed. "I don't think I even want to know. I agree, though - languages not my best subject. Last time I tried speaking Minbari I ended up ordering the crew to 'Engines at full, high power, hatrack ratcatcher to port weapons - brickbat lingerie!'"

Mac grinned, "I think the only real point of that phrase is to be as useless and random as possible. And at that, it does very well."

She raised an eyebrow, "brickbat lingerie? Now there's a useful phrase if ever there was one."

"Oh, it is," Ivanova replied seriously. "I've used it many a time. Works very well as a whispered sweet nothing. The girls really go for it."

Mac chuckled, "I have to say, its not one I've ever had the occasion to use. You never know when these things are going to come in handy though I suppose."
