Adulting With Cars, Thursday, Third Period

Brian's class was back in the Danger Shop, in a parking lot in LA, empty save for eight matching bright green Mitsubishi Eclipses, one blue one, and an assortment of items spread out on a tarp. "When you have a car, you've gotta take care of your car," Brian told his students. "Which means a few things, but today we're going to be working on changing the oil. There's no reason to pay someone to do it when it's easy to do yourself and that way you know it's done right. So let's get started. Everybody gather around the blue car."

Brian proceeded to walk them through how to change the oil, demonstrating as he went. When he was finished, he asked, "Any questions?" and, after that had been taken care of, "Your assignment for the week: change your oil. Everything you need is on the tarp. This is a race. First person to successfully finish their oil change, start their car, and drive it around the block and back to the lot wins first prize, which is--" He held up a candy bar. "Only catch: the simulation has been programmed so that if you do something wrong on your oil change, your car won't start until you fix it. Your time starts on one, two, three, GO!"

Blue took her time on the oil change portion of the assignment, more concerned with getting it right the first time than with winning. If that put her behind, she was okay with that. She didn't need chocolate that badly.
