Creative Inspirations: Monday, Period One

For today's class, they had booked not only a portal, but a vehicle. Hannibal had made all the plans in person, to avoid any potential Portalocity...creativity. They were meeting at the docks, and the students (as well as alumni and anyone else who wanted to join them) had been asked to meet them there promptly.

"You can fly this?" Hannibal asked, just to be sure.

//I've flown more complicated aircraft than this,// Jono replied, shrugging his shoulders. //This thing is nothing, trust me.//

Between Weapon X and the X-Men, Jono had been relegated to 'pilot' duty at least a few times in his life. They'd be fine.

Hannibal nodded. If Jono said he could...well, he very much doubted Jono would take the tiniest risk with his students' lives.

He turned to face the people who'd gathered in the...he wasn't sure if he ought to call it a plane or a ship. It was large, reasonably comfortable, slightly shabby, and glass - or at least clear-material - walled. "Hello and welcome to class, whether you're here as a student or tagging along."

//For those who are tagging along, this class is intended to be a bit of inspiration for our students. Each week we go somewhere new, in the hopes that what we show our students gives them the urge to create art. Music. Poetry. Dance. Whatever suits them. This week, we thought we'd take in something a little bit historic, provided to us by nature itself.//

"Our journeys have been a mixture of beautiful and disturbing," Hannibal said. "This week's is likely to be both."

Their portal appeared, and he waited for Jono to steer them through and join them again before he continued. They now hovered a few hundred feet over a mid-morning ocean, slowly approaching an island with a cloud hanging over it.

"It is August 27th, 1883, just before ten a.m. local time," Hannibal continued. "We are in Indonesia, between Java and Sumatra. And that island there," he nodded toward the one they were approaching, "is called Krakatau."

Oh, Hannibal. Jono wasn't going to outright call him such, but really, he had quite the flair for playing drama queen when the muse so hit him, didn't he?

//Please keep your arms and legs inside the aircraft at all times,// he said, because Hannibal seemed to have the tour guide routine all handled. //Once that thing gets going, I imagine this flight is going to get somewhat more turbulent.//

[OOC: Open! Not just for students today- Visitors are welcome to come on this field trip, too. Giant natural disasters! Whee!]

Buffy remained. Mainly because she had decided that moving wasn't an option right now, but still. She's there. She has some paint in front of her, but there's not a lot of creating going on, as such. Aimless poking the brush at a piece of paper, maybe.

Hannibal poured a cup of coffee and added a bit of cream and quite a lot of sugar before setting it in front of Buffy with a (very quiet) chuckle. "You're one of our alumni, I take it?"

"That would be me, yes. Hi, I'm Buffy," Buffy said. She could be polite to the nice teacher with the coffee. "Thank you."

"A pleasure to meet you, Buffy." Hey, Hannibal wasn't judging anyone's name. He gestured at the paper. "Far be it from me to interrupt genius, but don't feel you have to if you'd rather not. You're welcome to simply sit here quietly."

"Oh thank god." Buffy immediately dropped the brush and grabbed the coffee instead. She had not gotten a lot of sleep after the Naked Mutiny.

Hannibal laughed. "You seem to have had an interesting evening."
