Introduction t o Archaeology, 5th Period

"Okay, first of all I want to set your midterm. It will comprise of an essay, the title of which is on the board."

"Archaeology is rubbish. Discuss."

Daniel grins, knowing that this can be taken both ways. He's interested to see how his students respond to it.

"Okay, I'm going to give you today's class time to make a start on it, or ask me questions because this was posted so late."

Blair signs in...and looks around for Molly.

Molly signed in and sat down without looking at Blair.

Pippi signs in and doesn't look or not look at anything in particular.

Blair stood up and looked at the front of the room. "I believe that Archaeology is rubbish compared to living, breathing people. Some people are more important than history, than artifacts, than grades, even more important than public humilation."

He turned and looked over at Molly. "I'm so sorry for what I said earlier, it embarrassed you and I'm sorry I didn't explain why I said it either. I hope you'll give me a chance to talk to you and explain what's going on with me."

Blair looked around at the room and Professor Jackson and blushed brightly before sitting down. Hopefully he wouldn't get into too much trouble for hijacking the class.

Molly looked up at Blair when he stood up. She blinked in surprise as he spoke. And when he turned to speak directly to her, most of the tension that she'd been holding onto since entering the room fell away.

After Blair resumed his seat, she just sat there for a moment and thought about what she wanted to do. Finally, she tore out a piece of notebook paper and wrote him a note:

You're done being an idiot? And you'll explain what in the frell that was about earlier?

She passed it to him without really looking at him.

Blair smiled happily when he saw Molly passing the note. Then he read the word frell in Molly's handwriting and he remembered, uncomfortably, that this was going to be hard to explain.

He scribbled for a minutes, scratching things out and handing the note back.

I'll probably never be done being an idiot. I am so sorry Molly. I'm....I'm sick. I'm going to go to the clinic after classes and see what I can figure out.

Molly silently agreed with the first part of Blair's note, but boys were often idiots and she was used to that. The rest of the note... she knew Blair was sorry, but she really did want to know what had caused his reaction in the earlier class.

She wrote for just a moment, then handed the note back.

Are you back to being a normal idiot then?

I accept your apology and I'm sorry your sick. Will you be able to explain what happened when you aren't sick anymore? Because it still really makes no sense to me.

Blair groaned and nodded while writing.

Normal, run of the mill idiot.

I'm going to the clinic this afternoon and hopefully this will all be over with. Whatever happens, I promise I'll explain it to you.

The note got sent back again.

Thank you. I hope they are able to help you at the clinic. Maybe I'll see you around after that?

[identity profile] lovechildblair.livejournal.com 2006-03-03 04:16 am (UTC)(link)
I'll track you down to explain as soon as things get fixed. Blair didn't mention that it would be so much easier to actually face Molly with less happiness going on.

Pippi discusses something that her Grandfather Fabe used to say, which was "You can tell a lot about a crew from their jetsam".

When one is actively engaged in the finding of things one generally finds things that have been lost, thrown away, or otherwise left behind. If one can visit a respectable institute as the Smithsonian Museum of Natural History and look at fossilized dinosaur dung, one could certainly say that archaeology is "rubbish".
