Drama, Monday, Period 4

"Good afternoon!" Lito said to his students, once they were all assembled in the front row of the auditorium, because seriously, this was drama, what did they need a regular classroom for? "I am Mr. Rodriguez, and I will be your teacher. I'm afraid I am a bit new at this, so please bear with me. Now, drama is an art form, yes? It's about making people believe something is real that isn't. It's about...well, it's about lying. So that is what you're going to do this week. You're going to lie to me. It's an improvisation exercise. Introduce yourselves. Give me your real name, because I need to check you off on this roster, but anything else that comes out of your mouth should not be true, and it should be convincing. I, for example, am a pharmacist from Barcelona who was recently working in San Francisco, before I discovered my passion for the stage." He sounded very convincing, and stood one hundred percent prepared, with some assistance, to convince them this was true. Or they could Google him on their phones. "Now, you," he said, picking a student at random. "Who are you?"

"I'm Hanna Heller." Um. Oh, Hanna was *always* terrible at this. "I am from... Russia." She then said, "//It is very nice to meet you,//" in somewhat stiff Russian. "I want to be, um." What? She looked around frantically. "... a hot air balloonist."

Well, at least she had imagination?

So much of Hanna's life was a test, she wasn't quite sure how to relax; still, she tried, and gave Lito a tentative smile. "It is something I have not done yet. And..." Okay, why would anyone want it? The tension eased up a little more. "You can take your time. Not have to think of schedules, and just-- arrive where you arrive." Actually, that sounded really wonderful, now that she thought about it. "Have you ever been in one?"
