"Good afternoon!" Lito said to his students, once they were all assembled in the front row of the auditorium, because seriously, this was drama, what did they need a regular classroom for? "I am Mr. Rodriguez, and I will be your teacher. I'm afraid I am a bit new at this, so please bear with me. Now, drama is an art form, yes? It's about making people believe something is real that isn't. It's about...well, it's about lying. So that is what you're going to do this week. You're going to lie to me. It's an improvisation exercise. Introduce yourselves. Give me your real name, because I need to check you off on this roster, but anything else that comes out of your mouth should not be true, and it should be convincing. I, for example, am a pharmacist from Barcelona who was recently working in San Francisco, before I discovered my passion for the stage." He sounded very convincing, and stood one hundred percent prepared, with some assistance, to convince them this was true. Or they could Google him on their phones. "Now, you," he said, picking a student at random. "Who are you?"

April was positively delighted about this assignment, but her chosen persona was much more reserved to the point of creepiness. She adopted a low, monotonous voice and raised her eyes the bare minimum to appear awake. "My name is April and I collect spiders and scorpions," she droned. "I like watching dental surgeries on the internet. And I'm from Canada."

Her brightly colored clothing didn't quite jive with the character, but her performance was pretty good.

"Very good, April," Lito said. "Do you have a favorite kind of spider?"

April fought to keep a straight face, and there was a hint of a smile twitching at the corner of her mouth, but she pushed forward. "Yes, I especially love black widows," she monotoned. "They're just the right size to cuddle."

"I've been told tarantulas make better pets," Lito said, "though I must confess to not being particularly fond of spiders myself." This was lying through understatement: he tended to shriek and jump on top of things and make Hernando or a passing production assistant kill them.

"They're underappreciated," April intoned, widening her eyes so that they were so serious and intense that she couldn't help but break. A giggle slipped out, and she quickly tried to turn it into a cough.

"I have often thought so myself." No. No, he had not.

"You should follow my spider themed instagram," April added. "I have fifty thousand followers."

Okay, now she couldn't help but grin. It was good while it lasted!
