Creative Inspirations | Monday, period one
The students had been handwavily advised to dress comfortably for warm weather and the beach, and come to Portalocity, where they were met by their teachers.
Hannibal was in linen slacks and a lightweight shirt, with a large square bag over his shoulder. He smiled at them. "Welcome; welcome back to some of you. Those of you who don't know us, I am Doctor Hannibal Lecter, and this is my partner, Jono Starsmore. The class is 'Creative Inspirations', by which we mean we will bring you to a number of places and hope that they inspire you to art. You will be graded primarily on attendance - not only showing up, but paying attention to the world around you."
//Just like last semester, we'll be aiming to provide you with a variety of different inspirations, both natural and man-made,// Jono noted, watching the new faces in the class to see how they took to his telepathic voice. He was always a little worried about that, when it came to new students. Hopefully, this batch was fairly unflappable. //Not all of our destinations will necessarily be pleasant, though we'll try not to outright traumatize the lot of you. That said, if our last batch in this class managed to make it through the end of the universe and the meal that went with it, I have faith that you'll all manage just fine.//
Hopefully with less of a hangover.
Don't drink the Gargle Blasters.
//If anything does make you uncomfortable and you need to take a few steps back, please, don't be afraid to talk to us about it. The aim of this class is to inspire you, not to break you.// Jono slanted a glance at Hannibal over that one. //We're both reasonable adults.//
What was that look for, Jono? Hannibal was a perfectly reasonable adult. Edward had been the one who wanted the drink. Besides, he tried not to break people too young if he could avoid it.
"For today," he continued, "we'll be making the most of a bit of sun and beach. We'll be heading to Baia do Sancho in the Fernando de Noronha archipelago of Brazil. We'll do the introductions there, and have a spot of food," he patted the large bag, "and then you can enjoy the sand or go snorkeling or wandering the island, so long as you don't go too far to return in time."
//After we're finished on the beach, we'll make our way back to the school, where you can create something. Anything. Whatever you're inspired to make, be it a painting, a poem, a song… Far be it from us to limit your creativity, after all.//
"We will be there for advice or assistance," Hannibal said. "At the end of the term, we plan on having a show of some of the pieces you're proudest of. We hope your creativity will not be limited to the classroom." He waited a moment for questions, then waved them through the portal.

Introduce yourselves!
Hannibal has brought a number of finger sandwiches on homemade bread:
Pear and brie
Cucumber, watercress, and mint
Summer sausage and bleu cheese
Also water with berries in it, and tea with mint.

But maybe a little later would be good.
Which was how he found himself sitting in class that morning, staring at the food. And then the teachers. "You've gotta be kidding me."
... Introductions, Dante.

"I'm Maria DeLuca and I'm new here. This is my sophomore year."
She was going to enjoy a creative class where they fed her.

And Alluka liked the berries in the water, though a lot of that was from the sheer fun it was to try and catch the berries.
... Dignified, she was not.
She beamed sunnily at both of the teachers. "Hi, hi, hi!"
What? They didn't need her to introduce herself! They both knew her already!

She didn't know how to snorkel, but that didn't stop her from wading into the water and looking at everything she could see,

Dante got tired of antagonizing his teachersDante had to go and actually do something. Maybe take the time to marvel - or maybe baffle - quietly at being here, and how improbable that was, and how the hell it worked anyway. Where the fuck had he wound up?In the end he sat down in the sand, stretched his legs out casually, and tried to relax as much as he looked like he was relaxing.
Weird.
Well. Might as well enjoy it for as long as it lasted.
Re: Enjoy the beach!
Once she'd finished that, she was content to spend the rest of their beach time roaming along the sand looking for tidepools.
And being very sad about how they were only temporary.
Re: Enjoy the beach!
She had a plan in mind! She really did!
She was going to use the shells to--oooooh, tidepools were amazing.

She let her fingers drift aimlessly over the keys for a few moments before she started picking out notes. It wasn't anything terribly fancy -- she was very good at playing what was on the sheet music in front of her, but unused to applying music theory to something original. It was just a simple melody meant to try and evoke some of what she'd felt looking into the tidepools, but it was a start.

But she settled down with her giraffe and a bunch of pipe-cleaners and while she started off pondering making a castle out of them, in lieu of the sandcastle she'd never gotten around to building, she wound up making a bunch of shapes that looked a bit like feet with them instead and set them on the table to look at.

Back in the classroom, he'll be sketching the water. And drying off.
Re: Talk to the teachers!
So, there you go. One of your teachers decided to start the semester in a Pearl Jam band shirt.
After hanging around on the beach, poking around for sea glass, he was going to spend the classroom period noodling with his electric guitar. Unplugged, so as to not be too distracting to the students.

OOC!
Re: OOC!
I recall there are musical instruments in the classroom; am I remembering correctly, and if so could I assume there would be a piano or at least some sort of keyboard among them?
