BWI Airport, Portalocity Lounge

It was That Time Of Year again. At BWI airport, they knew well that this was not the kind of thing you wanted to be asking questions about. So when a teenage boy showed up wearing a ratty long red-and-black coat, an expression that blazed hell and a large series of bleeding scratches on his face, well, they didn't ask. About anything.

Dante didn't mind. It meant he could walk into the nice warm Portalocity lounge and crash on one of the benches. Had to sleep off the day he'd had... yesterday? Was it yesterday now? Who cared.

By the time he jerked back awake about an hour later, the scratches had vanished and his expression had gone sleepy, though the ratty coat remained. He sat up, rubbing at his eyes. Guess he wasn't alone anymore, huh? Fine, whatever. "Who knew the public still showed up for transport?"

"Is that a family name?" Frank asked, making small talk now that he was bound to the guy for a few minutes thanks to the sharing of alcohol. Not bound by magic or anything. Just basic social grace. Barely.

Alcohol was great like that, wasn't it?

"Nah, real name's Gary. But it's a shit name, so I go by Eggsy."

Seriously, who names their kid Gary? It was awful.

"Well, my good Egg, it's as nice to meet you as it can possible be to meet anyone who doesn't serve me alcohol from outside my collection," Frank said politely. "Now, what's this you said about this not being the school? We have to go farther than this?"

"Eggsy, he corrected. "And unless this shit's a scam, yeah. Waitin' on a shuttle."

Eggsy was lucky he got that much right. "Space or bus?" Frank asked. "I wouldn't normally question that, except I did just step out of a portal, which is something that traditionally does not happen to me."

Eggsy took a plane, so...

"You've been drinkin' a lot, yeah?"

"Just an average amount, at best," Frank scoffed. "If anything, with this travel, I'm probably three drinks behind." Frank drank his drink. "Two drinks behind." He drank another drink that Eggsy probably didn't even see him pour. "Nearly caught up."

"This is gonna be fun," Eggsy replied, trying to down his drink as easily and failing at it. Look, beer would have been easier, okay?

"I wouldn't go that far. We are going to a school," Frank said. HE DID NOT TRUCK WITH SCHOOLS. HE DID NOT EVEN HAVE A TRUCKER'S LICENSE.

YET. HE MIGHT GET ONE AT SCHOOL.

"Already a better school than the last one." Because of the alcohol.

"Oh right, some people have gone to actual schools," Frank mused as he refilled his glass. "What was the last one like?"

"Didn't have anyone with a bag of booze," Eggsy replied. "That's for sure."

Frank, you're his new best friend.

"Then I can see how it would be lacking," Frank said. "I guess that was one good thing about the church. Everyone there drank better than fish."

"The church?" Really? Eggsy would have actually gone to church if that was the case.

"Probably not the kind of church you're thinking of," Frank said. "And almost certainly not the kind of church you think of when you hear someone say that."

"Then what kind is it?" If it was a cult... Eggsy would be a little torn about that.

"The kind that sends nuns and teenage mediums out to fight monsters," Frank said with a roll of his eyes. THOSE kinds of churches, amirite? "The priest was less interested in leading sermons and more interested in hunting demonic mermen."

"...what."

"It's complicated," Frank said. "I'll just pour another."
