How Not to Kill Yourself with Incantations | Friday, Period 1

Bob eyed the students more than a little dubiously as they filed into the Danger Shop. When they were all there, he grimaced. "Well. Not nearly as much time as I would've liked, but still."

He pointed at the table, where a number of scrolls were laid out. "Spells. Simple, small ones." He indicated each one in turn. "To create a small flame, to make your hands glow, to create a breeze, to sour wine, to grow a seed. If you do them correctly. They're also specifically designed so that even if you don't do them correctly, they won't be harmful, although you may be minorly inconvenienced." Dear god, he hoped.

"So." He waved them at the table with a look that said he was probably going to regret this. "Pick one. Ask any questions you like, do any research you like. I'll answer anything except how to actually say the words. Then read it. And do remember, it's in your own best interests to get it right."

Please don't make him call Harry to undo anything.

Anders' scroll read áræme mónaþfylen, and he did enough research to be relatively certain nothing was going to explode before carefully reading it aloud. A miniature version of the full moon rose in a corner of the classroom to shine for a few minutes before vanishing.

It wasn't a type of spell Anders had ever done before. and he was proud to have pulled it off.

"Thanks. I knew it was supposed to make a moonrise," Anders said, grinning over at the teacher. "Didn't expect it to be quite this, er, small, but they always say size doesn't matter."

"I reckon a real moon would mess up the tides and all that," Anders nodded. "This, though. This'd be perfect to light the way to the privy at night."

"Not in whatever that was on the scroll I can't," Anders told him. "But maybe --"

He raised his hand and concentrated Spirit hard at the mini-moon. It shuddered a few inches to the left.
